Hi all,

My consultant really hates the private sector with a passion and the two times we’ve spoken on the phone he’s made that very clear, almost blaming me (didn’t have all the histology right up until last minute last week - a call from me to my ENT surgeon’s secretary rectified the situation). He reduced me to tears on both occasions. Not so bad at the face to face however my fiancé was there and we were focussed on the treatment plan. However, the simple fact is that this was presenting as nasal polyps therefore elective surgery and I would still have been waiting.

I am now at a crossroads as I do have the option of going back private (on NHS as the ENT surgeon couldn’t get in touch with the private haematology consultant. - there’s a new oncology centre at the hospital I had the initial surgery at. I was told off this morning by one of the CNS’ for asking questions about treatment  It’s not what I need as I should be focussing on me. I see your posts about the team putting you first. I don’t feel like that and it’s troubling me.

any thoughts welcome

    1. Hi again , some medical professionals are so obnoxious and definitely did not pass the patient care module.

Over my 22 years I have had a couple of consultants like this. But I was stuck with them due to where I live so my wife and I very quickly had very open. clear the air, everything on the table, this is what we want to know and this is how you will tell us conversations. This cleared the air and did not have many issues from that point on.

Your situation is rather different as you have choices and need to go with what you think is the best for you and your mental health.

If you have to stay with this consultant and you still have challenges then you can always contact PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) for any further help.

Lets see if anyone else has experience that can help.

Thanks Mike. In a way I’m glad it’s not just me but it’s not really acceptable and I’m sorry you had some rotten ones.

  • I have say in their defence that even although they had ‘rotten’ attitudes they did know their subject very very well and their expertise that saved my life.

I always view that it’s all about the greater good in all this.

That’s a fair point Mike. I have called PALs just now and they were very supportive and wanted me to write in with my concerns.
