Just been diagnosed 19/11/25 and so far it's been a whirl wind of emotions and appointments. Had an MRI done today so awaiting the results from that and I'm due to go into hospital on the 1/12 for either a biopsy under anesthetic or I'm not sure whether it will be an hysterectomy.

At the moment it's alot to process and try and get my head around things, as I thought my symptoms were to do with the menopause. Got that wrong just a little bit.

Hopefully my head will become less pickled asore information becomes available to me. It's going to be a mad journey I think .

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

It really is quite the whirlwind at the start when you’re diagnosed, isn’t it? Once you have all the results together, it does become easier as you’ve got a plan for focus on.

It sounds like when you go for your hospital appointment you might be having a hysteroscopy, which is a small camera into your womb. It won’t be a hysterectomy as this would be something that is a planned surgery and it needs to be based on the stage of your cancer.

Not everyone with cervical cancer will be able to have a hysterectomy, and the scan results and biopsies will be important in determining your cancer stage and what will be the best treatment for you.

Please let us know how you get on and what’s going to be happening next. We’ve got experience in the different stages and treatments used for this cancer, so feel free to ask any questions.

  • Hello thank you for shedding some light on what happens next, yes I will definitely be back with more questions just hope I don't become a nuisance Smiley I will definitely keep you updated with things.

    Thank you again

  • Please ask as many questions as you want or need to! We are nearly all new to the world of cancer when we are first diagnosed, and no question is a silly one.

It can be quite difficult being in the diagnostic phase as you are now-there’s a lot of waiting for things to happen and results to come in. Once you have your biopsy /hysteroscopy on 1/12, the results need to go to the lab to be analysed.

These results, along with any scan results will need to go to be discussed at a Multi Disciplinary Team meeting (MDT). This  normally takes place weekly at the hospital and involves the medical professionals who are taking care of a number of patients at each meeting. They are staff from oncology, radiology, surgery and usually cancer specialist nurses and they will make a decision on which form of treatment is most appropriate for you.

I would expect that following this meeting you would have an appointment with your consultant to discuss your treatment and explain everything.

Hope everything goes well for you on the first.

  • Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much you are really helping me I feel like I've learnt more already, so thank you.

Thank you I will definitely be keeping you updated, thank you again for explaining what happens. I can now discuss this with family and it's making it clearer as to the next steps.

    Thanks again

  • Hi Emma

No problem. I didn’t know anything about how all this worked until I was diagnosed and went through it, and sometimes we just don’t get enough information from the medical staff, so it’s handy to hear from real people in a group like this.

I remember once when I was going for a biopsy under anaesthetic and was given something to wear with no explanation . I think I must have been watching too many medical programmes on tv so I put it on my head thinking it was to cover my hair! Turns out it was a pair of paper knickers!Joy Luckily my partner was still waiting with me at that point and pointed out the leg holes!

  • Honestly-I felt such a clown! But glad I could give you a laugh-we need a bit of humour in all of this. I was glad I was still behind the curtain getting ready for my procedure and no-one else saw me!

Keep in touch, and we’ll try and help support you through.
