New to this forum, recently diagnosed and getting to grips with the minefield of appointments, the highs and lows which I have no control over and as a control freak this is scarey.
Hi Georgiebear and welcome to our group.
I’m sorry to read you’ve had a diagnosis of cervical cancer-it’s such a shock to hear those words isn’t it?
I think we can probably all identify with the loss of control, when everything is out of our hands and we’re thrown into a storm of appointments and information. It is indeed scary!
I hope you’ll find our group supportive and helpful as you go along. Would you like to share with us what your diagnosis and proposed plan is so we can see how best to support you? We have members who have different types and stages of this cancer- some of us have had surgery, and some of us have had other treatments depending on the stage of our cancer.
Have you had scans yet or been given information about your proposed treatment plan? Most of us find that things settle a bit when we know what’s happening and we can focus on the next step.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask, and you can use the group to share any worries or concerns. I still remember the shock of my own diagnosis, and it definitely took me some time mentally to process that.

Mine was diagnosed after routine smear, I watched as they took the biopsy and due to the nature of my work I was 80% sure that it would come back as cancer, so the initial diagnosis did not come as that much of a shock and I spent the time whilst waiting putting in plans, yes I have now had the scans which have all come back as no further spread, the thing that is confusing me is that my consultant want to do another biopsy under surgery conditions before doing the hysterectomy, I'm also reluctant to have a full aesthetic and would prefer epidural, my pre op nurse agrees with this due to my risks but we will have to wait and see and this is where I feel out of control. I am pragmatic in there is nothing I can do about the diagnosis, and the time recovery will take, I a doing the things that I enjoy and take the time to ground myself if I feel myself start to spiral. The prehab clinic gives me a chance to meet others also on there journey and gives me time to focus on me and not worrying about how the rest of my family and friends are coping.
Hi Georgiebear
It’s positive that your scans haven’t shown spread and that you should be able to have a hysterectomy. My own cancer was stage 2b, so at that stage hysterectomy wasn’t an option and I needed chemoradiation. However, I have since had a radical hystercomy as part of a much larger surgery.
Has your consultant explained the need for a further biopsy under anaesthetic prior to the hysterectomy? I had this done too, but that was because an mri had identified something after my treatment ended.
I had an epidural and general anaesthetic for my large surgery, but only a general to get the biopsy done which just took about half an hour.
I have since had other issues not connected with my cancer and although I need surgery for something else, my risk of a general anaesthetic is unfortunately too high to be able to have the surgery I need. I can understand you wanting an epidural if you also have a heightened risk for general anaesthesia, so I hope that will be possible for you.
Do you have a date to get the biopsy done?

Hope it goes well. I went in the morning and was out mid afternoon after they were sure I was feeling ok and had eaten toast and had a cup of tea.
