Hello… high risk HPV after LLETZ

Hello,

I have had HPV and on few occasions abnormal cells for around 10 years. In February I had to have LLETZ as had CIN2. I have just had my repeat smear and it’s come back as high risk HPV and borderline changes.
Does this mean the CIN2 was removed and these are new changes? What will be the likely treatment going forward as I can’t get rid of this HPV, I have been tested for lots of autoimmune diseases but nothing!
This is just a constant worry now.
thanks you xx

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

For some people, hpv is persistent and despite our best efforts we cannot shift it, despite not having any recognised autoimmune diseases.

You've had the LLETZ and it may not have removed all of the CIN2 completely, but it’s not possible for anyone to say whether that is the case or there are new cells there.

If you’ve only had one LLETZ, it may be possible to have another one, but the number you can undergo will depend on the length of your cervix and how much needs to be removed or has already been removed,

Borderline cell changes are minor and pre cancerous, so I would expect you to be closely monitored as they may regress on their own although I appreciate you’ve had ongoing hpv issues for a while.

I don’t think you should spend your life worrying about it-this is common and you will have either more treatment or testing to check that nothing develops further. Hpv cannot be cured, and can come and go, so all you can do is try to keep as healthy as you can and hope that your immune system will keep on top of it.

Have you got another appointment arranged to see what might be next?

    Sarah xx
