Hi all,

New here and just wanted to post what has been going on with me lately and if anyone has been through anything similar to me.

Apologies in advance as it may be a long one.

Basically, I’ve had HPV now for numerous years that won’t go away, so I have yearly smears which always results in going for a Colposcopy. Normally, everything is fine and I just get told another smear in a year’s time. However, this time around I had to have a biopsy done which I wasn’t aware of so found it a tiny bit traumatic but still all good.

During this time, I came on my period the day before the Colposcopy so carried on bleeding for 7/8 days after it like normal. However, 8 days later after finishing my period I started to bleed again and it has gotten progressively worse and really heavy. I rang the Colposcopy Unit and they said they would usually refer me to the emergency Gynaecologist, but because it has been over 2 weeks (coming up 3) since I had the biopsy done, I was best to go to A&E. I instead called 111 to get some advice and they ended up getting me an appointment with my doctors.

I attended the doctors today who had a look with a speculum but didn’t really say much and had prescribed me tablets to stop the bleeding and said she would send a letter to the Gynaecologist (not sure what about).

Also, just to add my biopsy results came back saying: Viral changes with CIN1 and focal CIN2 and would arrange colposcopy clinic in 6 months time after discussion in the colposcopy MDT.

I’m at the point now where I’m just getting fed up of it all and can’t make much sense of it. I’m also worried that this new bleeding could be something more serious as it’s totally out of the ordinary for me to start a period/bleed 8 days after finishing one.

Has anyone else been in similar situations and can tell me what your outcome has been?

Thank you so much for reading Relaxed

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I can see you’ve had a lot going on, and can understand it must be very frustrating to have no answers yet.

I can see that so far you’ve been diagnosed with pre cancerous cell changes (the CIN1 and CIN2) but I would think it’s a good idea to have an appointment with a gynaecologist, if that’s what the letter is about, as they are the experts. CIN changes should not cause bleeding, so that is best investigated.

I’m sorry I can’t help with sharing a similar experience as I had a cancer diagnosis from the start, but it may be that others in the group can identify with something similar and be able to share what happened with them. I hope you do get some answers soon and that you’ll let us know how you get on.

    Sarah xx

  • Hello, I have no advice to offer but just to say that my experience sounds scarily close to yours! I came here to ask the same kind of thing. So, apologies no advice, but solidarity!
