Hello everyone, I had 2B cervical cancer and had a really bad time, I was diagnosed 14th October last year at 12:25 am 55 years young am 5 months clear and it feels a lonely place at the moment and struggling with emotional issues throughout this journey and one really annoying side effect yes the dreaded bowels sometimes I have a 5 second warning and I have to run to the toilet I had 6 chemotherapy, 25 radiotherapy and 2 brachytherapy I have just bucked up the courage to join here as it’s sometimes a struggle thank you
Hi Purple3070de and welcome to our group.
I’m sorry to read that you’re still struggling despite your successful treatment-I had stage 2b too, and I did find some aspects of my first line of treatment treatment difficult-I found radiotherapy pretty tough, and had bowel and bladder issues although mine did resolve after treatment.
Often ladies come to the group and discuss the same kind of challenges you’re facing, like issues with bowels, and the fact that the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis and treatment doesn’t go away just because treatment is over.
Have you got a good support network round you-partner, and friends for example? I do know it can be difficult to talk through things with those closest to you as people may think that you should be over everything now. In the group here, we do understand what this is like, so it can be easier to share with others who have had similar experiences.
You may also want to consider having some counselling to work through your feelings, especially as you say you had a bad time and things are still difficult emotionally. Have you spoken to your team at all about how you’re feeling when you’ve gone for your follow up appointments? They might be able to refer you to some additional support services, and you can also use the Macmillan support line (the number is in my signature) if you want a friendly ear to talk through everything.
I hope some of the other group members will come along and say hello and that you’ll find yourself among friends here. You are welcome to be with us, and I hope you’ll find it helpful.
Sarah xx
