Hello all
I had chemo-radiation 5 weeks and 4 days brachytherapy for stage 2b squamous cell Cervical cancer with treatment completed December 2023. Ive had 3 monthly hospital checks since then and thankfully no signs of cancer re-occurrence - i had a review yesterday and my consultant has advised i need to have a further PET CT scan which has already been booked for September, this appears to be routine and i am just curious as to whether others have followed a similar protocol? i had a PET CT for staging, a further one at the first post treatment scans, another one 2 months after that, one a one year post treatment and now another one is being ordered and it feels like ive had a lot of PET CTs - would be good to get a sense from others are their pathway for locally advanced diagnosis
Aside from ordering the PET my consultant was very reassuring yesterday and continues to re-emphasise that at 2 years the risk of reoccurrence significantly drops off (and ill be seen every 6 months then rather than every 3 months)
thanks everyone
Hi mochimoo
I didn’t manage to reach longer than 9 months without a recurrence of my stage 2b cancer, which did then result in a PET CT scan, but I was advised at my check ups prior to this that I would only have repeat scans if I did show any signs of recurrence.
It does seem that different hospitals follow different scanning protocols post treatment, so hopefully others who’ve not had a recurrence will be able to share their experiences-it’s always useful to know how others are treated.
The risk of recurrence does drop after 2 years, and I would have been on 6 monthly checks up at that point going forward, but I’m happy that my recurrence was found and treated when it was, and I’ve had no recurrence since.
It’s always good to get reassurance from your consultant, and I hope you’ll get another good scan when it comes round in September,
Sarah xx
