Good evening,

I am 4 years post treatment and am prone to infections.

These infections put my body into some sort of shock and I end up with a rash in the place that I had the treatment.

Has anyone else gone through similar?

I have seen gp, specialist nurse and been hospitalised on numerous occasions but no-one seems to have answers for me.

This has happened so many times, I am so fed up with it.

  • Hi Ashbash90

I have not had a response to treatment as you have described but i have since my treatment ended developed mast cell activation in the form of cold urticaria and anaphylaxis. My oncology consultant didnt really have answers for me when i first started reporting symptoms to her at my first post treatment check (my fingers would swell and become hot too touch if i carried a cold drink etc) it was not until i fainted after being caught in the rain with my body responding with hives /welts all over that were hot and itchy n that i was referred to see a specialist consultant who was able to give a name for my symptons but there is very little research into the cause. My condition is immune system related, as is cancer its just mine is quite rare and they cant give me concrete answers as to why this is happening to me. Its rather serious as my throat can swell if it comes into contact with something too cold, and im at risk of drowning if i go swimming and now am an epi-pen carrier and have had to make significant adjustments to my lifestyle

so i hear you with the fed up feeling - im hoping someone else comes along who has had a similar experience to what you have described, i just wanted to let you know that im an ally in regards to being left without clarity on cause of symptoms from the specialists !!!!!

my treatment was chemo-radiation and brachy

Hope you get some answers and in the meantime stay as well as possible

I haven't had a similar experience but thought I'd just question whether the infections are as a result of the damage to lymphatic system caused by the cancer treatment?  Maybe manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage to improve lymph flow might help reduce the tendency to infection?  I'm no expert  - just sharing my thoughts.

I was diagnosed with stage 2A squamous cell cervical cancer (node negative) in 2017 following symptoms: persistent, watery, yellow vaginal discharge then post-menopuasal bleeding.  My treatment was a radical hysterectomy followed by chemo-radiotherapy.  My long term side effects include lymphoedema and urinary retention which I manage with intermittent self catheterisation.
