Brachytherapy

Hello,

I have just finished 5 rounds of cisplatin and 25 rounds of radiotherapy on Friday,  I am going in for my first of 3 rounds of brachytherapy this morning and just wondering what to expect,  will I have terrible pain afterwards?

I have 4 children at home including a baby and am wondering if I'll be able to carry on as normal.  Really nervous about today.

  • Hi

Just wanted to wish you all the best for your first brachytherapy today. You’re nearly there, with the end in sight now.

I wasn’t able to have brachytherapy unfortunately, so I don’t have any experience to share but I do hope it goes smoothly for you.

  • Hi Sarah,

Nice to hear from you again Slight smile

All went pretty well yesterday although pretty uncomfortable,  I don't feel too bad this morning.

Wouldn't wish it on anyone but if it kills the cancer its worth the pain x

  • That’s the right way to look at it Chloe. It’s definitely worth it to reduce your risk of this cancer coming back like mine did. I can tell you that is WAY worse! I certainly wish I’d been able to have it.

You’ll at least know what to expect next time, even if you know it’s going to be uncomfortable.

  • Yes the most terrifying part is not knowing if its going to work completely or if I have a recurrence, I got told off by my oncologist yesterday for bringing this up, and told to just focus on the here and now , but you cant help but worry .

  • Your oncologist is right-worrying  about things which may never happen is a waste of time though I  think everyone who has had a cancer diagnosis has some level of fear about potential future recurrence.

The thing is not to focus on it or let it dominate your thoughts, as that stops you from truly living your life. I very much enjoyed my life after treatment and focused on my recovery and getting well again. I was just very unlucky, but remember the odds are in your favour, and this treatment can be very successful.
