Hello,
I have been very newly diagnosed with cervical cancer, I am yet to have a staging MRI and I am really trying to keep my sensible head on and not go to worst case scenarios. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and not being here for them is just not an option! My littlest one was very poorly when she was born and we spent most of her first 3 months in hospital and I am finding the prospect of hospital appointments and medical procedures very triggering at the moment.
I am looking for some reassurance as I wait for staging. I had a smear in Jan 2024 which was high risk but not cancerous. When I then went for a Colposcopy the Dr felt the area that needed treated was an little too large and would be better done under a gen anaesthetic. She took a biopsy at this stage and we have just had confirmation that it is cervical cancer. Is it a good sign that my smear results in January were non cancerous? I'm hoping this is a sign that the cancer has recently developed and may not have had the chance to spread too far as in know cervical cancer tends to be slow to develop? Or is there a chance that the cancer could have been missed in January?
Thank you for any support or advice, I wish you all well on your journeys x
Hello,
Thank you for your message. Wow our stories are almost identical! Do you mind if I ask how long ago you were diagnosed? I hope your treatment has gone well.
Appreciate you taking the time to share your experience x
I was diagnosed in January and had the cone biopsy later the same month. Everything you are feeling is totally normal. Unfortunately i had abnormal cells came again which were found at my 6 month check up which I think is quite unusual so I opted for a hysterectomy, a 2nd cone biopsy was an option too but I was done having my family so it wasn't a difficult decision. I was out of work for a week after the cone biopsy, the recovery wasn't too bad.
Hi, my situation has been similar my first colposcopy was high grade and successful removal. I had cancerous cells on my 6 month checkup. My MR scan has staged it at 1A2-1B1 so I am awaiting a hysterectomy.
i had my MR scan within 5 days and was discussed at the first MDT the same week to get my staging so all together it was 9 days from being told it was cancerous. There’s usually 2 week max target wait for MR scan so hopefully this will be soon.
Hope you’re feeling ok, the staging wait is really hard but hopefully once you know what you are dealing with it gets a bit easier.

Thank you so much for sharing, it's so reassuring hearing from people that are a little further down the line. I hope you are doing well now and your recovery from the hysterectomy has been ok! X
Hi Chloe, thank you for your message and for sharing your story, I really appreciate it.
I hope all goes well for your upcoming hysterectomy and your recovery.
I had my MRI this morning which is a strange experience in itself, hopefully it won't be too long to wait for results x
Hi I hope you are keeping well, I’m in the same boat as you I was diagnosed on Friday after a biopsy was taken and now awaiting a date for MrI and PET scan. The struggle of waiting and not knowing what stage or if it’s spread is consuming my thoughts and I can’t seem the focus!
mice a 6year old and a two year at home too with both my husbands and I family all in Ireland so we have little support over here.
i hope you have had your mri and got your results now to plan your treatment . Take care x
Hi Lorzy321 and welcome to our group.
I hope you don’t have too long to wait for your scans-I completely understand how difficult it is to be waiting, and I know it’s easy to imagine things might be worse than they are.
It’s a lot to take in and process when you’re first diagnosed, and I’m sorry to read you don’t have much of a support network round you. That can make things feel harder, but now you’ve found this group please feel free to ask any questions and share any worries here with others who understand.
I hope you’ll keep in touch and let us know how you’re getting on.

Hi there, sorry to hear you have found yourself in the same boat, it's such an awful shock and so much to try to process.
I have had my MRI and although they said it looks like it has been caught early I have been booked in for another LLETZ on the 11th before I get official staging and they decide on course of treatment. Although it's reassuring to know it has been caught early I still feel like I'm in the waiting stage of not knowing what the next few months are going to look like. The initial shock has definitely worn off and I feel like I'm in practical mode now, I just want to know what we are dealing with so we can get on with treatment. The waiting is so brutal!
I really hope you are not waiting too long for a date for MRI and PET scan. I was diagnosed on the Friday and got a call the following Weds for and MRI on the Thursday so hopefully it will be pretty quick for you too.
It must be so hard for you going through all this without nearby family support. If you want to chat at any point feel free to drop me a message.
Take care and all the best with your scans, I really think once we know what we are dealing with it will all feel a bit more manageable xx
Hello ladies, I hope you are all keeping well.
It's been 2 long and at times frustrating months to get to this stage but I finally got staging today. I'm 1b1 and will be scheduled for a RH in early January. It seems odd to think that this feels like great news but I am relieved as I have spent the last two months trying to fight the worst case scenario thought spiral! I am so grateful to you all for replying and making me feel much better in the early days of diagnosis.
I wanted to check in and see how you are all doing , sending lots of good wishes and hope you have a lovely restful Christmas x
Hi LauraSH
It’s never nice to get any cancer diagnosis, but believe me when I say your staging is a really good result! I was so disappointed not to be able to have the radical hysterectomy when my staging was confirmed, but hopefully you will be through your surgery and recovering soon.
Make sure you enjoy a lovely Christmas with your family and make the most of it before you go into hospital. Thanks for keeping us posted, and I hope you’ll be back to let us know how everything goes.
Sarah xx
