Hello,
I have been very newly diagnosed with cervical cancer, I am yet to have a staging MRI and I am really trying to keep my sensible head on and not go to worst case scenarios. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and not being here for them is just not an option! My littlest one was very poorly when she was born and we spent most of her first 3 months in hospital and I am finding the prospect of hospital appointments and medical procedures very triggering at the moment.
I am looking for some reassurance as I wait for staging. I had a smear in Jan 2024 which was high risk but not cancerous. When I then went for a Colposcopy the Dr felt the area that needed treated was an little too large and would be better done under a gen anaesthetic. She took a biopsy at this stage and we have just had confirmation that it is cervical cancer. Is it a good sign that my smear results in January were non cancerous? I'm hoping this is a sign that the cancer has recently developed and may not have had the chance to spread too far as in know cervical cancer tends to be slow to develop? Or is there a chance that the cancer could have been missed in January?
Thank you for any support or advice, I wish you all well on your journeys x
Hi Laura glad it’s all getting sorted ! I’ve just been booked my RH for NYE . So now panicking what to pack for hospital and getting childcare sorted for my kids !! All go but happy to finally have a date and hopefully move on .
hope ur keeping well and happy Christmas to you too
HiLorzy321
I’m glad you’ve got a date now-you and Laura will be able to compare notes and keep each other company (virtually) on here. I was give a date of New Year’s Eve for my proposed salvage hysterectomy but asked for it to be moved to 7th of January as I thought I would start the new year off with a bang.
You are not likely to be in hospital for too long, and your bedside locker will be small, so try not to overpack! I had my dressing gown and slippers and the most important thing-a long charger for my phone! Sockets in hospital are not always easy to get to and often behind your bed in my various experiences of being in hospital.
I hope you can enjoy your Christmas - this will soon be over and you can start your recovery. Please let us know how you get on-it’s always so helpful for new ladies to be able to see how things have gone with the surgery. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.
Sarah xx
Hi Laura,
Thank you for updating us and I’m really glad you now know your staging and next steps. I was also staged at 1b1 and had my RH 3 weeks ago.
You will be absolutely fine.
I did have a bit of a rough time as I spent 8 days in hospital due to needing a transfusion and I got an infection when I went home so returned for another week. I’ve now spent a week at home and I am improving every day.
Any questions feel free to ask.
I would definitely say take to hospital:
a Long charger (I had a 3 metre one!)
Ear plugs and earphones to go over the top (noisy machines and snoring is not fun!)
Peppermint Tea (gas pain is bad!)
Good Luck xx
Hi Chloe_x
Glad to read that you’re feeling better now and improving by the day. Good tips there, so thank you for those!

Hi Lorzy,
Ah great to hear that surgery is also an option for you - hard to imagine a situation where being told that you have to undergo major surgery is good news but here we are!
Snap with childcare, trying to fathom how the recovery will work with a 1 and a 3 year old! How old are your kids? I hope you have family around to help out.
Hope you manage to put it all to the back of your mind for a couple of weeks and enjoy the festive break xx
Hi Chloe,
Lovely to hear from you, I'm sorry to hear it's been a bit of a rough ride for you. I hope the worst of it is behind you now and you can rest up and focus on recovery.
Great tips regarding what to pack, thank you! I'm sure there will be more questions that come up some might well take you up on that offer!
Hope you have a lovely Christmas and you are very well looked after! Xx
Completely agree with you alright but it’s definitely the best news out of the rubbish situation we are in. I do feel lucky that at the moment it isn’t worse!
I’ve a 6year old boy and my daughter will be 3 mid January.
all of our family live in Ireland but my mum will come over and stay with us for a few weeks and help with school and nursery runs - have you any help , it will be so difficult having a 3 and 1 year old who won’t have any understanding at all about what is happening and you not being able to pick them up.
absolutely time to enjoy Christmas and put it to one side till the time comes , hope you can too.
x
Thanks Laura-it’s always low key for us but it’s nice just to spend time together and relax. I finished my first line of cancer treatment on Christmas Eve 6 years ago and slept through Christmas Day as the radiotherapy made me exhausted. Christmas kind of stopped right there and we don’t even put up a tree now, but that’s ok and we’re perfectly fine with that as a couple of oldies!
