Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. New here. Basically I am 36 years old and I have 3 children. I went to the GP in April this year for very heavy bleeding. Constant. Massive clots. We changed my contraception but it didn't stop it. Had ultrasound and was told looked normal. Still bleeding. Saw gynaecologist. He performed a smear test and took a biopsy. Cervical cancer diagnosed. PET scan on Wednesday to confirm severity. Any advice? X

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I’m sorry to read you’ve had a cancer diagnosis-it’s always a horrible shock to hear those words, isn’t it?

I had an mri and CT as part of my original diagnostic process, and didn’t have a petscan until later. However, the petscan was one of the easier scans to undergo out of the many scans I’ve had in total. It does take longer than the other scans as you have to sit quietly for around an hour as the radioactive traces given through a cannula works its way around your body. The scan itself didn’t take long as is not enclosed like the mri so I found that easier.

Theres not much more you will know until the petscan results come back, but the result, along with the biopsy should give you information about the stage of the cancer, and whatever treatment you need to have will depend on this.

The best advice I can give you is to take one day at a time, concentrate on the facts you know for now, and don’t let your thoughts run away with themselves. I never recommend googling as you don’t have enough information yet and it can be anxiety inducing!

I hope the results give you the best outcome possible, and that you’ll let us know how you get on.

    Sarah xx
