Hello! I’m 57 and post menopause.  I’ve been reading this forum for the past three weeks, since I was told I have cervical cancer, and found it very useful. I am awaiting a PET scan in a couple of days and after that I hope I will know more about the treatment, although the oncology nurse said it is likely to be 6-8 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy. I’m doing my best to be ready for it by trying to lose some weight, get a bit more exercise and meditate. I’d love to know what other people did before their treatment, if anyone would like to share?

  • Hello  and welcome to the group!

There are lots of us who have been through chemoradiation if that ends up being your treatment, so hopefully we will be able to offer support and advice as you go through this. Your team should be able to tell you after your petscan as they will have the information they need to make a decision.

I was also post menopausal on diagnosis at 58, but I can’t help with things to do before treatment as I didn’t really do anything different and I had a lot of pain and bleeding.

Hopefully some of the other ladies will be along to offer their advice for you, and I hope you’ll find the group an encouraging and supportive place to be. Please feel free to ask any questions, talk about your worries or fears or anything else. You’re very welcome to be with us.

  • Thank you very much for your speedy reply, Sarah, I appreciate it.

  • Hi agathac and welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here.  Before treatment I read some books about diet and exercise for Cancer patients and I then gave up processed meats and sugar and ate much more fruit, nuts and veg. Also I started walking a lot, which I still do.  We live in a very hilly area so the only way is up!!GrinGrin  I think a positive mindset also helps enormously and you seem to have that.  There will be days though when you feel down and that is also perfectly normal.  Also make sure you stay hydrated and drink plenty of water every day.. I'm still a water fiend!!  The Chemo days are long so take plenty to keep you entertained.  I downloaded episodes of my favourite dramas and books to occupy my mind.  Please let us know how you get on or if we can help or just listen.  xxx

  • Thank you, Snobird! It’s so kind of you to reply and thank you for the tips. I am currently busy creating a reading list of comfort-type audiobooks! I am very curious about the chemo days but I will wait till I’ve seen the oncologist so I can ask more specific questions of the forum. Thanks again x
