Hello,
I'm in my 3rd week of treatment for cervical cancer. I'm a mum of two little boys and I'm really beginning to struggle with a lot of heavy emotion.
I'm grateful to have gotten started with treatment after what felt like ages but I have so many questions and fears. So far I've been quite tired and starting to have some problems with my bowels.
Anyone here a little further down the road and can offer any reassurance?
Many Thanks,
Hi Meg34 and welcome to the group!
You've come to the right place for some help and support, and many of us are indeed further down the road!
Would you like to tell us a little more so that the ladies in the group can relate this to their experiences? For example, what stage of cervical cancer have you been diagnosed with, and what treatment are you having? It’s harder to answer your concerns if we don’t know, so it can be useful to add a little information about yourself in your profile. For those of us who have added information already, you can read our stories by clicking on our names.
I don’t want to assume too much at this point as treatment might vary, but I’m sure we’ll all be happy to pitch in if you can give us a little more detail.
What I will say is that I think we can all identify with the questions and fears you will have, and probably had them ourselves. Please keep in touch and ask as many questions as you’d like to, or express anything that’s worrying you. We’re here to help support and encourage each other here in 5he group and you are so welcome to be with us.
Sarah xx
Hello Meg34 and welcome... I am around 5 months out of treatment and I struggled with bowel issues like you from just before week 3. I am assuming here that you are on the standard Chemo/Radiotherapy/Brachytherapy? Your team will be able to help with this and tweak your medication. I found that taking two imodium as directed made me constipated for a couple of days so I just took one when it was bad and that seemed to work well. I also found that eating little and often rather than big meals helped too. Jacket Potatoes and mash and toast all seemed to be ok plus salad, veggies and fruit. It is really important to keep your fluid intake up as well so drink plenty of water. It can all get a bit overwhelming and your feelings are quite natural but if this is the treatment you are having, you are over halfway so well done. It is a harsh intense treatment but very worth it and the bowels settle quite soon after finishing the treatment. You can get through this, after all you've come this far. Good luck and please let us know if there's anything we can help you with. We have all been there and as Sarah said we all want to support you through this. Not long to go, keep going! xxx
