Hi, I'm new here.
Last week I was disìagnosed with cervical cancer due to carcinoma in the squamose cells which showed up on my smear test.
I'm so surprised and disappointed as my smear for the last few years has been completely negative.
In 2016 I had LEEP to remove pre cancerous CIN 3 cells. It was successful and I was fine until 2018 when I had another abnormal smear. A colposcopy and a hysteroscopy came up clear and I was told not to worry. Now here I am in 2022 with a carcinoma.
Has anyone else had a similar experience, being all clear the year before and then suddenly with cancer????
Next week I start all the tests to stage the cancer, colpscopy and biopsy, CAT and MRI, mammogram and ecoflussimeter.
I'm still hoping the tests will come back clear.
Really can't believe it....
Hi Lulabell and welcome to the group!
I don’t have exactly the same experience as you but can tell you that unfortunately yes, I do know many people who have been clear and had a cancer diagnosis within year, sometimes less. This can be for various reasons, and sometimes the smear test doesn’t pick up everything so it is never a guarantee of 100% accuracy.
So, it seems that squamous cancer cells have been picked up and you therefore need the standard tests now to determine the stage. Squamous cell cervical cancer is the most common type of cervical cancer and it is highly likely that this has been caught early if they have found cells rather than a solid tumour mass.
I’m afraid I’ve not ever heard of an ecoflussimeter, and it’s not a standard test here in the UK. Are you based overseas? We also do not have a mammogram in connection with diagnosing cervical cancer-typically it would be biopsy, mri and CT and/or PET scan.
We all hate the waiting for tests and results but it’s important that your team get a full picture to be able to plan the correct treatment for you, and all the test results will need to be collated and discussed to decide what the next steps should be.
It’s tough waiting, but please keep posting and let us know how you get on. We have a very supportive and encouraging group here and will help you as much as we can based on our experiences.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.
I am British but I live in Italy, I hope this doesn't matter in terms of being part of this online community.
I was surprised about the mammogram too, but I have been told that they always check this with gynaecological cancers here. If I manage to understand why I'll let you know!
The ecoflussimeter is an internal 3D scan which checks the blood flow etc through the womb (I think)
Thanks again for answering, I feel so lost in all this at the moment.

Hi @Lulabell, I’m so glad to see you posting again!
It is absolutely ok to be here, even if you live in Italy-you are so welcome to be with us. That’s interesting about the mammogram. I’ve had one, but only on the basis of my advanced age! Very interesting to hear about the ecofussimeter-I suspect that will be a new one to those of us based in the UK.
I understand about feeling lost-this is a lot to process when cancer is mentioned, and not knowing more details can be a really stressful time. I think we all would say we feel better when we have a full picture, and know how it’s going to be dealt with. It gives us back a little bit of the control we lose when we hear the word cancer.
Please stick with us in the group and feel free to vent or talk about anything that might be worrying you. Some of us are literally old hands at this and are always here to help where we can.
