I have had stage 4 cervical cancer for 2 and a half years. I have been  on the comice drugs trial for 17 months now which seems to be keeping the disease stable. Awaiting the latest scan results which is a anxious time.

  • Hello Laylas and welcome to the group

I’m sorry to hear your diagnosis, but glad to hear that the trial is keeping you stable. I’m not aware of anyone else in this group on the Comice trial, but I know ladies in other groups who are. It’s amazing to hear it is working well for you and for such a long time. Scan results time is always awful for ramping up the anxiety levels, but let’s hope the drugs are continuing to keep you stable and you get good results.

  • Hello

Latest scan results show disease is stable which is great news. I am having problems having my bloods taken which is done monthly and a cannula inserted every 2 months for the scan my veins just don't want to play. I have large bruises on my arms after 4 attempts to insert a cannula and get bloods the cannula from March left me with a forearm like popeye which was painful for a few days. I have asked the trial nurse about a pik line but was told as I am on oral meds and bloods is only once a month cannula every 2 months its not worth having done. I am starting to dread my monthly tests as they are becoming more painful. Any advice anyone.

  • Hi Laylas

Stable is really good news! But I sympathise with your issues over cannulas. My hospital had a policy of a set number of attempts with different staff, and my record was 7 tries with 3 nurses, so I know how sore it is. I can understand why they think a pic line might not be worth it, but that doesn’t help you, and it will make you even more anxious as each test comes up which will make you unconsciously tense up. It’s a vicious circle. I presume they’re trying all the usual tricks, making sure you’re well hydrated and using a heated pad on the insertion site to bring your veins up? So sorry you’re having to deal with this extra stress.

  • Hi

Thanks for your reply, yes I have the heat pads and am well hydrated the nurse also uses a ultra sound to find the viens. X

  • Oh my goodness laylas…that has me stumped then! Have they also tried different needles with you-smaller, longer? It’s all very well for them to say no to a pic but this is ongoing for you so you would think a pic or a port would be a decent solution-especially a port as it’s so unobtrusive and they can use for blood and IV purposes.

  • Yes I have had different needles I go to clinical interventions at the hospital before my appointments for my blood tests but it makes no difference. I have a zoom call with my oncologist in 2 weeks I will discuss it with her.

    Thanks x
