  1. Hi, I’m new to the group 38yo and worried about ongoing symptoms. Extremely heavy and lengthy bleeding with large clots  for around the last 6-7 months, lower back pain, lower abdominal heaviness & cramps, nausea. Recently new symptoms include heaviness in abdomen after sex as well as pink discharge simultaneously. Last screening 2years ago which was clear, clear transvaginal US, clear swabs for infection. Only input from Gynae is that he is going to carry out endometrial ablation & sterilisation… no other examination carried out this decision is based on heavy bleeding (bleeding after sex is new, only had for the last 2 months). Spoke to my GP about my concerns of Cervical cancer to be told “ when the gynaecologist operates he will look for anything abnormal” !! I’m hoping for some advice, and is this normal protocol given my  symptoms & concerns? Thank you

Just got my appointment through for next Tuesday 4pm with the gynaecologist xx

  • Aimee that's fantastic news!. At my gynea appointment I had the internal scan and they tried and failed to take a biopsy because of the bleeding. My gynecologist was very thorough and explained everything she was doing and also what they were looking for/ trying to rule out. Let us know how u get on xx

    Will do thank you xx

  • And try to keep in mind that it’s as much to rule things out as rule them in! But loads of support here for you if there is anything of concern. We’re a positive bunch in here! xx

Thank you. I just can’t help fear the worst, I think because I’m symptomatic and that my cervix is red and inflamed I feel worse about it. I was also asked had I had previous surgery on my cervix .. which I haven’t , but I never questioned why I was asked. It’s the not knowing that’s hard. Could anyone advise what I can expect at my appointment please ? Thanks

    Aimee xx

  • Have you ever had treatment for abnormal cell removal? A leep/lletz? That can make it look like there has been surgery.

I never actually suspected I might have cancer, despite having classic symptoms, so I didn’t really think the worst going for appointments at the start. My story is there on my profile name , and if you click on it you can read it, but basically the first appointment for me was a closer look at my cervix to start off with. And a hysteroscopy, which is where they put a long tube with a little camera up to have a good look around. You can watch this on a screen but I chose not to. I think I’ve become less squeamish nowadays so I probably would look!

Then I had 2 punch biopsies taken. But I stress that even at this first appointment my doctor could see my tumour, which he described as a lesion, so biopsies were required to assess what it was. But at no time did he mention cancer, and looking back I’m glad he didn’t put that thought in my head and give me something to worry about!

There were 2 nurses with my gynaecologist, and one held my hand the whole time and said to squeeze it if I needed. Both kept up a constant chat with me to distract me and nothing was painful, just a little uncomfortable. The nurses were lovely and very kind. xx

Thank you, no I’ve never had treatment before my last screening was 2 years ago last month and that was normal. I suppose it’s all down to what they find on exploration then. I just wish I could wake up and it would be my appointment day xx

  • Aimee in all likelihood you might get a letter thru the post inviting you to your gynea appointment. I did and it explained what would be done and what to expect.. hopefully this happens for you as it's very explanatory. And reassuring

    1. Xx
