Hi!
Thank goodness for this forum. I'm not sure where to begin really.
I am 26 . Had my first smear test last year which came back high grade adnormal dyk something? Apparently according to my doctor, the worse result you can get from a smear. Biopsies taken two weeks after those results . Those results took 6 weeks to come through.
The results came back CN1 .. confusing the doctors as the smear indicated much much worse.
Last week I walked into the colonoscopy unit excited to finally get the go ahead to try for a child. Only for the doctors and nurses faces to fall the minute my cervix became visible on the screen. they used dark dye, telling me hopefully everything will soak the dye. Only the outer edge of my cervix did. The rest looked like the inside of a volcano . Thankfully the staff was absolutely amazing and the doctor sat me down afterwards to tell me that it didn't look great but for us to take one step at a time and wait for the biopsies to come back to see what treatment I will need and that it looks like I might need test further up and the abnormalities look to be situated inside the cervix too
How do you keep positive? I am so effected by having HPV .
Thank you
Hello idiotwithadog and welcome to the group!
I just want to be quite clear that I understand exactly what has happened with you, so I hope you don’t mind me clarifying some things.
So...you have high risk HPV, which last year gave you a result of high grade dyskariosis, which is abnormal cells caused by HPV, but not cancer.
Your biopsy results came back with CIN1 which is a low level of abnormality. The smear does a sweep of the cervix so it’s possible to have different levels of abnormality in your cervix at the same time.
Are you able to share a little more info about your timeline please? I’m wondering if they left you just to be monitored after the results came back at CIN1 and didn’t do treatment? I’m trying to understand if anything further was done on the basis of the discrepancy between the biopsies and the smear.
Biopsies only take a tiny piece of tissue, so it is possible for there to be different results between the smear and the biopsy, hence my question.
The results of the biopsies taken at your colposcopy last week will be tested and determine the next course of action for you, depending on what is found.
I’m always sad to see ladies being so negatively affected by having HPV. It is such a common virus that most sexually active people will come across it in their lifetime and most will never even know. It usually clears in a couple of years(though it can’t be “cured”) and for the vast majority of people will not cause any problems.
When it is active it can cause cervical cell changes which are CIN ( cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) also called dyskariosis, and these have different levels of severity, low level(CIN1) being monitored as they can regress on their own, to treatment being done for the more severe levels.
I appreciate that you’ve had a major shock, but until the biopsy results come back you don’t know what this will indicate. There won’t be any point in me telling you not to worry, as you will, but the worry won’t change anything. So my advice would be to take a day at a time and try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves at this stage. Also, please DO NOT google as you will likely both confuse and terrify yourself with things which may not even apply to you.
Keep in mind too, that, whatever the result is, there will be a plan to treat it. Do you know when you’ll get your results back?
