Hi all. Joined today as feel I need to talk to people going through the same thing as me. I have a very loving and great network of family and friends but sometimes I think I need someone outside of my circle. I was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer about a month ago, which after a pet scan discovered it had spread to my lymph nodes and is now a stage 3. So my treatment will be 5 weeks of daily radiotherapy and chemo every Monday, then after that 3 weeks of internal radiotherapy. Just waiting on a ct scan so they can sort my radiotherapy treatment out, eager to get started as I weirdly don't feel any different at the moment, when I talk about it I feel like im talking about someone else. Hope your all doing well ladies xx

  • Hi Phantom and welcome to the group.

I’m sorry you’ve seen your stage increase due to the lymph node involvement, but the treatment is usually very effective. I’ve been down the chemo and radiotherapy route after initially being told I would just need a radical hysterectomy, so I understand a little of what it feels like to have the stage change after scans. Many of us have done this treatment and done very well, so hopefully you’ll be encouraged by that, and I’m sure some of the other ladies will come on and offer their support.

It’s good to have a supportive network of friends and family, but sometimes you just need to speak to people who understand exactly what you’re going through and who have been through it before. Please feel free to ask any questions and I’m sure you’ll get a lot of support as you go through the treatment. Hopefully you won’t have long to wait before you find out your next steps. xx

Hi sarahh21. Thanks for your message, I know everyone is different but how did the chemo and radiotherapy affect you? I'm a bit nervous and anxious to start but at the same time I want to get it going. X

  • Hi Phantom,

Welcome!  Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It seems that they have moved pretty quickly which is all good and you have your treatment plan in place.  I am still awaiting the results of MRI but I know exactly what you mean about it seeming like it's all happening to someone else.  Do you have a date for the treatment to start?  The ladies on here are so supportive and helpful and I'm glad you found this forum.  Please let us know how you get on and stay strong and positive. Sending hugs xxx

  • Hi Phantom

Chemo gave me no issues at all-I actually found it a very relaxing day-it does take several hours. No sickness or anything, though they will give you anti sickness pills and put in anti sickness medication as part of the mix. Radiotherapy was more challenging for me-the effects of this are cumulative and I found it absolutely exhausting. I did have some bladder and bowel issues from week 3 of the treatment, but these cleared up quickly once treatment was finished and didn’t persist.

You are right, everyone is different in how they tolerate the effects, but the main thing is to report any side effect straight away to your team and they will sort you out. For example I started to have heartburn and mentioned it-immediately got a prescription to sort it out which it did.

Some ladies sail through with no side effects but I am on the older side(!) so I’m not sure if that’s why if found it tough. You just need to take one day at a time, and the actual radiotherapy treatment itself does not last long each day. xx

Treatment is supposed to start roughly 2 weeks after I have this last scan,  ut I still haven't got an appointment for that yet, they said they will try and push it all through quickly though. So here's hoping. Thank you xxx

OK that's good to know. I'm trying to stay positive and gonna take it all a day at a time xx

  • Hi  I am 12 weeks post treatment for stage 2b and had 5 chemo 25 radiotherapy and 3 brachytherapy. When I first got the list of all the appointments it was very overwhelming and I never thoughts I would get through it. But it flew by luckily I had very few side effects felt very well throughout just a but tired at the end.

I am now back at work and feeling fine. I have had 1 posr treatment scan which shows tumour has reduced will have further scan in February.

Just take one day at a time you'll get there.

    Take care x

You've all really helped me to stay positive these last 2 weeks - thank you so much.  I received my diagnosis of Cervical Cancer on 29th November, had my CT & MRI last Wednesday and have been told I will get my results tomorrow. I think you ladies are all incredible and truly inspirational.

  • Hi Bushbaby

Hoping for the best results possible for you tomorrow, and then you can get on with dealing with this! I’m glad you haven’t had long to wait between diagnosis and getting your results, although I know every day feels like an eternity while you’re waiting. xx
