Hello everyone, thought I could get some advice can abody share any symptoms with me they had before getting cervical cancer, I have not had a smear test yet as I am quite nervous when going to the doctors I was meant to get one a year ago... I have heavy periods and I am on the implant (rod) I have really heavy periods and I don't know if it is this causing it as they have got a little worse since having it in I had a 3 week period with clots then I was off my period for 5 days and came back on my period again.... I've read so many stories about cervical cancer but I don't know much about it or the symptoms my mum has had tumours in her legs and I'm just so scared to even go to the doctors as when I go for other things they don't really help me and when I last went a Dr laughed at me which made me more nervous to get my parts out

Thanks

  • Hi  I’d like to offer you a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community. I’m sorry to read about your worries but you’ve come to the right place to talk to other people who are in the same situation and help you get through this. It's amazing to think some Doctors should get training how to deal with people who are frightened. Normally it'll be a Practice Nurse who would do a smear test and if you tell them how nervous you are they should reassure you.

Please, please don't delay in getting a smear test. It might not detect Cervical Cancer but the heavy bleeding could indicate something else like mine - Womb Cancer or it could be fibroids. Bite the bullet, squash your fears, get on that phone now and contact your GP. You can always ask to see a female Doctor.back and tell us how you get on.

A possible cancer diagnosis of any kind makes us ask lots of questions, causes confusion, stress and probably emotions we’ve never experienced before. The Macmillan Community is organised into dedicated support hubs. I see you’ve joined our Cervical cancer  group, this will be a good place to connect with others and ask questions. In the meantime you could Ask a Nurse (click on the link below)

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. You can amend or update it at any time.

The Macmillan Support Services also offer lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen. It’s free to call 0808 808 0000. Most services are available 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two to three working days for replies from our expert team.

Sending you welcoming hugs B xx
