Hi,

I’m newish to the forum, Little bit of background. I’m 34 mum of one and step mum to two.

I was diagnosed in July 2020 with stage 3 breast cancer, had a mastectomy, lymph nodes removed, radiotherapy and hormone therapy for the next 5 years. Due to the the treatment it has brought on early menopause which is no picnic especially in the summer!!!
I haven’t had a period since September but I started spotting after sex. Stupidly I didn’t go for smears as I thought cancer wouldn’t happen to me. But after the symptoms and my experience last year  I made the appointment. Why I put it off I’ll never know it was nothing and my nurse was lovely.

So I had the smear  in April and just received my results, high grade severe dyskaryosis and positive HPV. My colposcopy is Wednesday and it’s all I can think about. I am convinced I have cancer again. But then think surly I can’t be that unlucky to be diagnosed with two primary cancer in 12 months ?

I really struggled last time with the endless waiting game between tests, scans, operations. I just can’t focus on anything at the moment and just want to know what I’m dealing with.

  • Hi . I’d like to offer you a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community. I’m sorry to read that you've previously had surgery and treatment for breast cancer and you're now worrying about the possibility of facing further a diagnosis of a different kind. You have come to the right place to talk to other people who are in the same situation and help you get through this.

My cancer is different, but as you know, a cancer diagnosis of any kind makes us ask lots of questions, causes confusion, stress and probably emotions we’ve never experienced before. We all agree the endless waiting between tests and results is the worst thing to go through.

The Macmillan Community is organised into dedicated support hubs. I see you’ve joined our Cervical cancer group, this will be a good place to connect with others making the same type of cancer journey.

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. You can amend or update it at any time.

The Macmillan Support Services also offer lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen. It’s free to call 0808 808 0000. Most services are available 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two to three working days for replies from our expert team.

Sending you welcoming hugs B xx
