Hello everyone,

i am 57 and just had a colposcopy after my smear test came back abnormal.

I do have high grade HPV and low grade Dyskaryosis.

Anyway, a letter has arrived stating they found dense acetowhite and iodine negative changes

The biopsies are are not back as yet.

I am literally crawling the walls with this finding and would love to know what it means, the Dr has also put he will be in touch with a plan as soon as the biopsies are back.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

TIA

  • Thank you.

I still want to know what iodine negative is? Does it mean the iodine didn't stain or did?

Does the non staining mean it hasn't highlighted anything or it has?

This is what i don't 'get'.

I am reading it as it is negative because the cells are bad.

Sorry for all of the questions, i am not assuming anything or saying i have cancer at all, i am just trying to work out what the results are.

2 calls later to.the secretary at the hospital now and no call back so i am getting angry now.

Gp just says wait for the results and no explanation

Awful wait, 4 weeks past now and i still.have no idea how to.interpret.

Very angry i got the letter anyway

It was a copy that was sent to my GP.

  • Hi Daisymae

I think iodine negative means the area in question didn't stain brown with iodine which may indicate pre-cancerous abnormalities. The following is copy and paste from the bsccp website www.bsccp.org.uk/.../

    Schiller's iodine test

The colposcopist may use another test using an iodine solution. Normal tissue on the outside of the cervix stains dark brown when iodine is applied. On the other hand, pre-cancerous abnormalities may not stain with iodine. The cells on the inner part of the cervix also do not stain brown. This test may be used following acetic acid colposcopy and is often used before treatment.

I was diagnosed with stage 2A squamous cell cervical cancer (node negative) in 2017 following symptoms: persistent, watery, yellow vaginal discharge then post-menopuasal bleeding.  My treatment was a radical hysterectomy followed by chemo-radiotherapy.  My long term side effects include lymphoedema and urinary retention which I manage with intermittent self catheterisation.
  • That's what i read.

    Thank you. xx
