Hi,

Just signed up today,  I am a 50 year old on HRT,  presumed post menopaisal,  Cant be confirmed as I had yhe contraceptive implant for years which stopped menstruation and was told hormone tests were ineffective,

Anyways, about 6 months ago I started experiencing spotting every day, which gradually got heavier wuth painful cramping.  I finally went to the doctor who referred me for a scan, which showed my womb lining was 6.5mm, so I was referred for a biopsy.  I have waited nearly 8 weeks for an appointment, even though I was told it was urgent,  Finally got a date for biopsy on 14/05,

The question I have, is I suddenly stopped blrrding completely a couple of days ago and find this strange as I had kinda got used to bleeding all the time. Has anyone else experienced a period of prolonged blrrding stopping suddenly and is this a good sign?

Thanks for reading

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I’m sorry to read what’s been happening with you, and I know how horrible it is to have bleeding which goes on and on.

I was post menopausal when I started with heavy bleeding, but it would stop and start, and eventually I went to the doctor and was referred to gynaecology. I had a hysteroscopy as part of my initial investigations but the doctor couldn’t see much because of the bleeding. I did have cervical biopsies however, though no biopsy was taken from my womb.

Your womb lining at 6.5mm is just above the normal range, but it’s best to go ahead with your appointment on the 14th even though you are not bleeding at the moment. The cause of the bleeding does need to be investigated, and in case you need it, we have a specific support group for womb cancer which is here.

Womb cancer and cervical cancer are distinct and different cancers and treatments can be different, but I hope it doesn’t turn out that you have any kind of cancer.

I hope the biopsy appointment goes smoothly for you and you’ll let us know how you get on.

  • Thank you, my heads all over the shop at the minute, really didnt expect to stop bleeding until after biopsy and treatment for whatevers going on

  • I bled very heavily after my cervical biopsies, but I did have a visible lesion there, so it wasn’t surprising. You’ll need to wait for your womb biopsy results to see if there is any kind of cancer, and what type of cancer it is. They won’t be able to tell you at the time of the biopsy-the biopsy will need to se analysed.

However, it’s important to remember that you can have bleeding caused by benign conditions, not cancer, so the doctor will want to investigate everything before there is any plan made for treatment. Any treatment required will depend on the biopsy results.
