I’m currently having immunotherapy alongside bevacizumab. After my last treatment, around three weeks ago, I started experiencing extremely heavy bleeding — at times soaking through a pad every hour and bleeding through my clothes.
I contacted my GP, who suggested it could potentially be related to my thyroid and arranged blood tests. However, the bleeding continued and I was also experiencing pain, so I went to my cancer unit. They took further blood tests, which showed that my iron levels had dropped, and examined me internally. They said the bleeding wasn’t coming from the tumour but that it could potentially be a side effect of the bevacizumab.
I was sent home, but I’m still bleeding heavily.
I’m really worried because this doesn’t feel normal, it’s affecting my day-to-day life, and I’m concerned about how much blood I’m losing. I feel like I’m not being taken seriously and I don’t know what else I’m supposed to do or who I should be contacting.
Has anyone else experienced heavy or prolonged bleeding while having bevacizumab/immunotherapy? If so, what happened and how was it treated?
Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated.
