Hi everyone
In really scared. My GP has found a large mass on my cervix and I've got an appointment for a colposcopy. I just wondered if anyone can tell me how long it takes to get the results back? I can't seem to find an answer online!
Hugs to everyone

Hi SweetPea79 and welcome to our group.
I understand completely what it’s like to go through this, so I know it’s a scary time for you right now.
My gp found something on my cervix too, so sent me to the gynaecologist where I had a colposcopy. It took 3 weeks to get my appointment for this, as the clinics were very busy, but my gynaecologist had put on extra clinics at another hospital, so I went there exactly 3 weeks after I’d seen the gp.
For me, it took a week after the colposcopy to get the results back, but this can different for everyone dependent on how busy the hospital is. I had some punch biopsies taken at the colposcopy(pieces of tissue taken and sent to the lab for analysis).
My gynaecologist told me he would request the results urgently, so made an appointment for a week later while I was still at the clinic.
I didn’t assume anything when I went for the colposcopy, so didn’t spending the week waiting for results worrying. It was only the biopsy results which could confirm what my lesion was.
I know it’s hard to wait, but try not to go down any rabbit holes on google. You currently don’t know what’s wrong yet, and dr google cannot diagnose you, but it can cause you anxiety! I hope you don’t have too long to wait to get your colposcopy and results, and that you’ll keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much for replying Sarah, and for being so understanding and helpful. I have my appointment on 12 May, so only had to wait around 10 days from seeing my GP. I guess I'm more worried because the GP said she was very concerned, and stressed how I must not miss the appointment. It came as a complete shock to me, I'd always kept up with my smear tests and never once thought something would be wrong!
I did make the mistake of googling, I wish I'd read your response before I did, but I'll try and remain calm until I get the results.
Thanks again xx
Oh, that’s hard SweetPea79 (176f51bfcaab483ebfc5c27a7a13b50d)! I think most of us who have regular smear tests with no issues can find it very shocking to have something like this happen.
My gp didn’t say anything to me at the time she examined me, and I didn’t ask any questions. She didn’t say she was worried, and because I didn’t go to google for fear of what I might find, I didn’t read anything online.
Try to keep busy and distracted while you wait to go for your appointment if you can. I had the philosophy of not worrying about anything unless there was something to worry about! It’s hard though.
Sarah xx
