Hi all new hear ,, Google has been my worst enemy,
I had a lettz on the 16th September following and abnormal smear and positive high risk hpv the lady who done it could clearly see the cells by eye so rushed it through
on 25th September I was told I have cervical cancer she said stage 1b
I was then sent for mri and pet scan
ffast forward to yesterday I was told both scans showed no signs of spread (so relieved) and was told the mri showed the cervix as glowing up but that could be the healing from the original lettz so have told they will repeat the lettz as the cancer may already be gone ,
im confused as in the first appointment when diagnosed I was told it would have to be a hysterectomy to treat
has anyone else had this experience
im really hoping that it is a case of it just being gone that easy but don’t want to get my hopes up to then be disappointed xxx
Hi Claire84c380ec and welcome to our group.
I’ll start by saying that I haven’t had the same experience, but as you haven’t yet had any replies yet I wanted to say hello so you know that your post has been read.
Sometimes it’s possible for a LLETZ to remove the cancer, depending on how early it has been found, so that may be the case for you, but I can understand you’d be confused after being told you’d need a hysterectomy.
I’m assuming that when you had your LLETZ, the cancer diagnosis was made on the basis of an analysis of what was removed during the procedure? Were you told that you had clear margins in what was removed? That means that the cancer was removed with an area of healthy tissue around it. if not, then another LLETZ can be required to clear everything fully.
It sounds like you have been treated quickly so far which is good to hear, and you’ll need to wait now for another check before there’s a decision made on the need for anything further beyond another LLETZ. Hopefully everything will have been removed but that won’t be known until the second LLETZ is done.
Please let us know how you get on, and I hope that you may get some other ladies reply who have been through a similar experience.

Thanks for your response and thank you ,,
from what I can remember as I wasn’t listening or really taking in information after I was told it was cancer and I was at the appointment on my own
the results from the lettz didn’t have clear margins so hopefully it’s just a case of another lettz and it’s all over , I’m just so stressed it’s been an awful year for whole family due to other circumstances and this just topped me over the edge
Fingers crossed the second LLETZ is enough for you to get this removed and achieve clear margins this time and that will be end of it for you.
I’m sorry it’s been a difficult year for you-sometimes things can seem to come all at once and it becomes harder to cope with everything, but try not to stress too much since you know there is a plan of action and you will be carefully monitored afterwards.

I have just read the letter that was sent to my gp it says
cervical scc depth of invasion at least 4.8mm stage 1b
I have no idea what that means lol
think at this point I’m going to try consentrate on Christmas rather than the cancer diagnosis
SCC means squamous cell carcinoma, which just means it’s the type of cervical cancer present-there are multiple different types of cervical cancer, and squamous cell carcinoma is the most common one, which starts off in skin cells.
How deep it goes into the tissue and the size of the tumour defines the stage of the cancer, which is 1b for you and means, as you’ve discovered from your scans, that it’s confined to the cervix and not spread anywhere else which is good news, although I know finding out there is any cancer doesn’t feel like good news.
You’re right to try and focus on something else, like Christmas, for now as it will keep you busy and your mind occupied.

Thank you so much I did try to google it and ended up down a rabbit hole of scary information
thank you for your support xx
I’d recommend keeping off google to be honest…you can find yourself going down some rabbit holes of information that doesn’t apply to you and it can induce more anxiety. It’s not something I ever did when I was first diagnosed and I’m glad I didn’t.
Trust your doctors to make the best decisions for you and answer your questions. You can also ask anything here in the group-although we are just patients and not medically qualified we can speak about our own experiences and how we go through various treatments etc.

Update : I was admitted to hospital last week with pain in pelvic back and legs turns out I have adenmyosis as well and it actually flagged on mri but no one mentioned it
I went for second lettz today and they refused to do it they could see it would be unsuccessful as there was a lot of cancer cells inside cervix and around the other layer more than what a lettz could treat I now have to wait for an appointment to discuss next steps
Oh gosh, I’m sorry to read you needed to be admitted due to your pain and that no-one had even mentioned the adenomyosis to you before.
I hope you’ll get an appointment soon to tell you what will need to happen next-it’s horrible to have to wait when you were expecting to have the second LLETZ done today.
Please let us know how you get on and what the next plan will be and there will support here from you in the group if you need it.
