Hi

I'm new here and my head is a bit scrambled with all of this, I just feel so confused and wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

here’s a timeline….

mid June, smear test - during the smear the nurse saw a grape sized polyp that looked irregular, she called the dr into the room - they talked to me about cancer and referred me on a 2 week wait for colposcopy/biopsy.

during the 2 week wait smear results came back as hpv positive with severe chances and a note saying “Squamous cells show features highly suspicious for invasive disease.” (Last smear 5 years ago all clear).

had colposcopy, leetz and biopsy at the same time. Colposcopist said he could see CIN3.

biopsy/histology results clearly with no pre cancerous cells, letter from consultant to say they were surprised at this result as they had not expected it to be clear and wanted to discuss in MDT for next steps

one month wait for this to happen then a letter to say I have to go back for deeper leetz under general anaesthetic- this was booked for end September.

they called back a week later to say they wanted to do it sooner and I’m booked in this week. My consultant has been changed from standard gynae to gynae oncologist.

this has been going on since early June and my brain is turning itself inside out!

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I’m not surprised your head is a bit scrambled when you haven’t had definitive results and things are dragging on for you. I appreciate that you are looking for someone who’s had a similar experience, so I’ll say right away that I have not as I went straight to a cancer diagnosis and there was no uncertainty over my results. However, I do like to try and say hello and welcome everyone new to the group to ensure everyone knows that their post has been acknowledged.

It certainly can happen that there are discrepancies in results and this can be for a number of reasons, such as the biopsy, which is usually very small not being taken from quite the right area, although it would be expected that the biopsy would have shown at least CIN3 since the colposcopist could actually see these changes.

However, it’s good that there was further discussion at the mdt, where various different professionals are all giving their view, and a deeper Lletz was advised. I’d try not to read too much into this being sooner than planned, as sometimes theatre spaces can become available for these shorter procedures. It will be good for you to get it all over with and hopefully get a definitive result from the pathology testing which will be done on the tissue removed.

I hope everything goes smoothly with your procedure next week and your results are not as serious as cancer. However, if this is the case there will be support here for you in the group, so I hope you’ll let us know how you get on.

    Sarah xx
