I have been having colposcopies over the course of my adulthood but had my first LLETZ around 7y ago.
Had a regular smear and was sent for a colposcopy which resulted in an on the spot LLETZ but the doc was unsure about the cleared margins. Forward 6 months and they weren't so I received a colposcopy appointment for 2 weeks time
Doc explained that she could not safely do another in outpatients and that my case was going to be discussed at an MDT but she was recommending a hysterectomy that would likely be 4 - 6w later as i gwas relatively urgent. I was asked to xomplete an early screening assessment which i djd.
MDT meeting took place a month later and I rang for outcome repeatedly but the letters were awaiting doc sign-off. Rang yesterday (on my bday) and told to come in on 1st April for what may be preoperative assessment...but I completed an early screening assessment . Is this appointment with the consultant likely to be a more in-depth conversation about surgery or could it be a LLETZ under general anaesthesia?
To be honest I just want any bad bits gone as i am having fortnightly cramps and blood for a day every 2 weeks and do not want another LLETZ only to find further dodgy cells that may have spread. Haas anybody else experienced this?
The waiting is killing me!!
Hi Sindie and welcome to our group.
It’s hard to guess what your appointment on 1st April might be for, as it looks like you haven’t been given much information so far.
I’m not sure if the early screening assessment you refer to was a pre op assessment or something different? I know from my own situation that on one occasion I had to have my pre op assessment done a second time as it my surgery was going to be happening more than 3 months after my original assessment had been done and my hospital requires new results if more than 3 months have elapsed and surgery has not taken place.
I’ve had multiple pre op assessments for a number of reasons and these involved things like height/weight, ecg, swab tests for mrsa and a discussion with a nurse. Are these the types of things which happened at your “early screening assessment”?
I would have expected you to get some sort of letter or appointment for a face to face discussion to confirm the next steps for you so it may be that this is what your appointment is for. You need to sign consent before a surgical procedure involving a general anaesthetic and to give informed consent you need to have everything explained to you first.
So it sounds from your post that you will be having the appointment to discuss the mdt findings and course of action recommended-ie a further lletz under general anaesthetic or a hysterectomy, although it’s hard to know for sure on the information you’ve been given.
It’s difficult for you not knowing what the appointment is for. Do you have a contact number to ring to confirm what it’s for as you’ve still got a couple of weeks of waiting to get through?
Sarah xx
