Sitting in Elizabeth Loury ward alone in quiet room waiting for a chair to be ready for me. Feeling very vulnerable and anxious. Been here nearly 2 hours. Have my 1st cycle of chemotherapy today carboplatin and etiposide. Have to have it in ward 1st cycle then the rest in Chemotherapy unit. Had all scans last week just waiting for results. Not sure how much longer I have to wait.
Hi Megan
Sorry for the delay in seeing this-I’ve been at hospital myself this morning. I hope everything has started for you now…I can’t contribute any experience of your chemo mix as I didn’t have it, but I hope it goes smoothly and you don’t have any nasty side effects. Sometimes there can be a bit of waiting around for chemo if the pharmacy hasn’t made the drugs up, but I did find chemo very relaxing once the cannula was in. Just try to keep your mind occupied with something else. This is when it’s handy to have some stuff downloaded to your phone or tablet to watch. Good luck with it and I hope you’re ok.

Hi May2,
Wasn’t the greatest start, had a severe allergic reaction to the first chemotherapy drug. They had to stop it and my stats went down quick, couldn’t breathe saw dancing things around my eyes and lower back intense spasms. They gave me some extra IV drugs antihistamine, and extra strong steroids. Left me an hour then restarted the chemo on a lower dose 2 hours going in instead of 1 hour. Went through all good, They have decided to change my regime now and not do capsules at home and do 3 days IV of both drug. Need to be monitored each time now. Last dose today then will be discharged if stats all good.
thanks for asking.
Megan
Oh Megan, that must have been horrible for you, and really scary. At least if you are going to have the drugs by IV you will be closely monitored which is a good thing. Hope everything will be ok for discharge home.
