Im going from dark red to brown then dark red again and it won’t stop I’m so worried and just looking for some advice please anything helps thank you , also like to mention I am 22 .

  • Hi  and welcome to the group.

I can understand your anxiety about what’s happening, and I’m glad you have an appointment to get further tests. A smear test is not a diagnostic test for cervical cancer, so it’s better that you have your bleeding investigated. I was in a different situation as I’m much older than you but my bleeding was bright red and I had intense pelvic pain before my diagnosis.

The ultrasound will be looking at your pelvic organs, and to be honest is not a typical diagnostic test for cervical cancer but is designed to have a good look at the whole pelvic area. There can be many reasons for bleeding which are not cancer and so the main thing will be to rule cancer out, rather than in, especially at your age. It could be hormonal, related to contraception, lots of things. Cervical cancer would not be so likely.

The main thing is that you are being seen quickly and should have an answer soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on tomorrow, and I hope there’s a much less sinister explanation than cancer for you.

  • hi Sarah thank you for your reply I am not on any contraception and haven’t for about 6 months so definitely not to do with that I suppose I’m just worried and will find out soon where you suffering with sore head or tiredness at all ?

  • Hi Shannon

I was post menopausal when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer the first time, so my symptoms would have been very different to someone as young as yourself. I’ve not heard of sore heads and tiredness being a feature, but I’m guessing you are pretty stressed right now, so that might be having an effect, plus prolonged bleeding can make you anaemic and also cause tiredness.

It’s honestly best not to try and match your symptoms to a cancer diagnosis as it can make the anxiety worse..so best to wait till tomorrow and you get your scan. With an ultrasound they may be able to give you an idea tomorrow if they see something unusual.

  • So had scan yesterday and everything looks fine they said but still not sure what is causing the bleeding ,  bleeding is still on going I’ve to wait till Friday to hear back from test result taken a few days ago so hopefully get some answers fingers crossed

  • Hi Shannon

Well that’s positive news that the scan was good. Let’s hope your other tests give you some answers-it’s tiring bleeding all the time and I know it will be a worry for you. Have you not been given tablets to stop the bleeding? Or are they waiting to get some answers first about what’s going on?
