Hi all. Hope everyone is as well as can be at present x

I was wondering if people would be willing to share their symptoms and how they approached GP etc. I've had symptoms for around a year now, and docs keep putting it down to a number if things and I'm not confirmed. I've had a Google (worst thing I know) and I seem to have a lot of symptoms of cervical cancer but I feel like GP isn't taking me seriously ? Any advice welcome. Thank you in advance x

  • Hi Nam

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer following symptoms: persistent yellow watery discharge (enough to need a panty liner) which became pinky brown after 2-3 months after whcih I started to get abnormal vaginal bleeding.  I didn't go the GP until I'd had the discharge for about 3-4 months as I thought it was a simple infection.  Sadly I hadn't had a smear test for about 12 years when my symptoms started; are you up to date with your smear tests? -  are in the age bracket for the cervical screening programme.

Google is great if you want to some shopping but really isn't good for this type of situation - it will just mislead, confuse and add to your worries.

I was diagnosed with stage 2A squamous cell cervical cancer (node negative) in 2017 following symptoms: persistent, watery, yellow vaginal discharge then post-menopuasal bleeding.  My treatment was a radical hysterectomy followed by chemo-radiotherapy.  My long term side effects include lymphoedema and urinary retention which I manage with intermittent self catheterisation.

Hi Nam I've only just been referred to gyne, I went for a follow up smear last week as last years came back HPV positive however while the nurse was taking the swab she found a lump on my cervix. I have been having symptoms though for quite a while they are bleeding after sex, pelvic pain and needing to wee more often. I would go back to the gp and tell them you are worried. Maybe even ask for a different gp x

Hi Tracey, thank you for your response. I pretty much have the same symptons as you, I know this could mean anything but it is definitely worrying. I had a GP consulation on Friday and am booked in for a cervial exam on Friday coming and also they have mentioned referall. I am glad I finally seem to be getting somewhere as they have previously told me it is anxiety which i cannot get my head around! I know it could still be anything but I feel as if I am closer to knowing either way. Thanks again for your response. Hope everything goes OK for you x

I've had the symptoms for quite a while now and have left it because I've been fobbed off your years with period pain and things all they have done is given me different pain killers which have just ruined my insides so cant take many meds now because I just throw up. Its only the fact that they found a lump in there which worries me as I'm HPV positive too. It's more than likely just a cyst.

I'm glad you are getting somewhere and someone is finally listening to you hope all goes well x
