My cancer journey began in 2013 when I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Three tumours in my left breast all grade 3 with lymph node involvement.
A mastectomy, chemotherapy - FEC-T- followed by radiotherapy saw me healthy until 2019 when lumps in my neck proved to be secondary.
Further scans showed extensive bone mets and now some progression to liver and lung.
I have had ibrance and letrozole as an initial treatment now moving on to paclitaxal.
The paclitaxal has caused me to be very breathless after just one cycle. 2nd cycle was postponed
I fear I may not tolerate this chemo at all and would like to know if any other people had a similar experience.
Thank you
Hi Pailey19,
it sounds like you have had a tougher time. I have just started paclitaxel as a first treatment for my secondary breast cancer which has appeared after 16 years of no symptoms. I had been hoping for the treatment you had with ibrance and letrozole, but I have multiple liver mets which the oncologist is concerned about. I have not had breathlessness, but it has inflamed iver! There are several other options; it may be you would be better on! I hope you get the help and support you need. It is scary enough dealing with this stuff without serious drug issues!
Hi Meiard. Thanks for your reply. I have had a medical review and the plan is for me now to take capecitabine.. I’m awaiting the results of a DPD deficiency test.
Again I am curious for feedback from anyone who has knowledge of this chemotherapy.
Thanks
Hi
I too have been in paclitaxal, it did not suit me after a while as my haemoglobin count kept dropping, that or I was neutrapinic and treatment had to be posponed. In the end the treatment was amazing for my tumours, but not my liver so treatment was changed. I am now on a tablet chemo which suits me better as no more weekly good trips.
I hope your breathlessness receeds.
All the best
Sapphie
Thanks for your reply Sapphie! I am hoping that I can tolerate it for long enough to shrink some of the tumours in my liver! I even bought some steak yesterday ( don’t usually eat meat) to help with the haemoglobin! Glad to hear the alternative is working for you.
