Sorry it's me again. This all feels very new and very confusing to me.

Need advice on bone biopsies please.

Had a phone call from oncology registrar yesterday after not hearing from him for 2 months since diagnosis of bone Mets.

Now originally this Dr wanted me to have a bone biopsy. That got changed to MRI scan, Ct scan and bone decity on advice of radiologist.

Yesterday I am told change of plan again and I am having a bone biopsy probably next week

Can someone please tell me_

Do I need a bone biopsy if he has all these scans

Can I ask to see the scan results

And finally j am in a lot of pain. Especially in shoulders where it is planned for biopsy to take samples. Will I be asleep or aneasthised during biopsy?

Is it very painful?

Hi , it sounds like they are just making sure that they have the correct diagnosis.  I will be pushing for extra tests like the ones that you have had as I have been diagnosed after only a PET scan (with bone mets) and am not convinced that it is correct (however, I am likely just to be in denial about it all).  I'm afraid I can't advise about what is involved in a bone biopsy but suspect it can be looked up on this website or the NHS website.

Good luck with it all.  This is a crap journey that none of us want to be on isn't it?!!

    Thanks for replying,

Yes you are spot it is a crap journey we would all love to jump off and just get on with life, but maybe we are made to appreciate life now because of the cancer

Ive been to hospital today and having bone biopsy in shoulder joint next Tuesday. Sounds very painful and I'm not good with pain

Hope you get the answers you want, I have been given a life expectancy of up to 5 years by oncologist but like he said there is new treatments coming along all the time
