Hi had 1st chemo yest paclitaxel 17 to go! Tried the cold cap once I got over the first 10.-15 mins wasn't too bad. I did get a slight headache but took  paracetamol. It added on a lot of time though are at 11.45 took till 4.15!

I was wondering about looking after my hair as hosp didn't have a leaflet  about it. Just said keep conditioner in over nite what they put on and rinse off next morning. Not to wash hair for a couple of days. I was wondering any special shampoo to use?

I don't feel too bad this am but was very tired yest! Start steroids and anti sickness tabs fo 3 days today so look forward to moon face and red cheeks if anything like last time! Suns coming out been awake since 4 so will see what today brings.

Hi - my nurses had an info file that was given to them by the manufacturers of the cold cap machine (but I don't know if there are different brands around the country) and it said to wash hair when I got home with a gentle shampoo (no parabens) and pat dry.  That was nearly three weeks ago.  My hair is quite thick and just this week has been shedding a lot more than normal BUT I haven't had any massive clumps come out.  It has just thinned out a bit.  I'm going to persevere with the cold cap but if my hair starts coming out in clumps, I'll just forget it as, like you say, it adds quite a bit of time onto your treatment.

    Good luck!

    Hi again

Be prepared for some to come out but persevere if you can.  One thing I struggled with as time went on was my hair felt a total mess as not supposed to dry or do anything with it.  I started wearing a chemo/sleep hat in the house to keep hair out of the way and it helped a lot, I also wore scarfs on top of it to hide it away, I wish I’d done that sooner as felt better about going out with the scarf on my head.

try and only wash your hair once a week if you can.  Hair wash day such a treat!!

    Good Luck

    Hi Angela

Yes I know what you mean hair feels horrid not washed or straightened usually do it every third day! I'm thinking I will b putting bandana on next week especially coming back from hosp!

I washed and straightened it on chemo day but cant leave it till then or won't get any days for it to look half decent! I think nurse said wash after a couple of days but was allowed to get conditioner rinsed off next morning. So that was Tuesday chemo day planning to wash tmw. It will feel better at least even though cant style it! I'm grateful its still here so far though hated it last time when it came out worst part for me  :((

  • I had my chemo unit into session today,  and when talking about thr cold call the nurse said that I could keep it long,  as in her experience it made no difference.  It's currently 7-8 inches below my shoulders,  straight and loud of fairly fond hairs. Have any of you managed longer hair,  add I thought that it would have to be a short cut? X

    Hi Londonmumof2

I had long hair but that was 7 yrs ago it was very fine and I didn't work with cold cap so gave up on 2nd session. But now cold caps much improved I have shorter hair though as  had it cut so I wore the cold cap last week and have 17 sessions to do!

I wish u luck hope it works for you.

    Take care
