Hi everyone I was diagnosed with metaplastic breast cancer last year, I had 10 rounds of chemotherapy which made the lump grow, followed by a masactomy and radiotherapy then I took capocatapine for 6 rounds. I thought I was cured as they got all the tumour out in April. However I had a pet scan last week and they have found a lump in my lung, they have said it’s secondary breast cancer and isn’t curable. I’m waiting on next steps and a biopsy but I’m really struggling I’m a single mum to a 2 1/2 year old and the oncologist thinks I may only hve a year left.
im hoping they are wrong has anyone on hear in a similar situation who has beaten the odds.
they have said they will probably start me on sacituzumab govitecan which will keep me going, I have no symptoms and feel really well which I hope means it’s been caught early.
i can’t bear the thought that my son having a life without me he will live with my mum and brother and his wife and nephews if it comes to it.
i want to beat the odds I’ve heard of people living 10+ years despite the diagnosis I’m hoping this will be me has anyone been given a similar diagnosis and are still fighting years on?
I’ve got lungs mets too. It’s definitely not an instant death sentence and I don’t think your oncologist should have given you this prognosis because no one knows. People are living with this disease now rather than dying from it. Good luck with your treatment and take care.
So sorry to hear you find yourself in our club. I agree with Linz. I got told 2-5 years, 2-3 years and then could be a few years . I don’t ask any more and take it scan by scan as they don’t know ! Many people do really well and last years and years. Sadly , some don’t but when you’re over the initial shock (which you will be), try and enjoy life and not think too far ahead . I have mets in my liver and I’m still on first line treatment after 2 years . It’s been.a rocky road at times but I’ve had lots of good times and holidays! And new treatments are coming out all the time so I try to be hopeful! Take care , take your time to come to terms with your diagnosis and lots of hugs xx
Aww I’m so sorry to hear this. I found waiting for biopsy etc was the most stressful time for me and my family. There’s lots of support face to face and online. Check out Breast cancer now. They have sessions a couple of times a week (I’ve seen sessions for people with children) and if you feel you need counselling McMillan can provide this. I promise you’ll feel a little better once you have your confirmed diagnosis and treatment plan. Sending you lots of hugs. Xx️
Thank you I may try and pop to Maggie’s tomorrow
Yes, they are really good too. Me, my mum and sister had a good chat with a lady there. She was an ex secondary bc nurse. It’s a lovely place and informal and relaxing. Hooe this helps even if just a little. Xx️
Just to add : I know it’s probably the last thing on your mind but Maggies have advisors for benefits . They sorted out pip for me which you will be entitled to (even if you’re still working). I’m lettting you know as I only found out about it a few months after diagnosis. They will do it all for you and a blue badge which has really come in handy for ne. Xx
