Fluid on the lung

My wife was admitted to hospital after suffering a severe reaction to her first paclitaxel to treat secondary BC that has metasasized to her lymph nodes and bladder resulting in a nephrostomy.

Following CT and X-Rays, fluid was found on her right lung, around a litre was extracted. It looks like this fluid is filling her lung again and won’t be discharged until the respiratory team have made a plan.

Has anyone or know of anyone experiencing similar?

  • Hi Bazza

I had a different type of cancer to your wife but I did have paclitaxel chemotherapy.

I am really sorry to hear that your wife had a reaction to the paclitaxel and I know that it is something I was warned about before starting my own chemo. At the time I did ask about what would happen and was told that sometimes they can try a different version of the chemo and sometimes it could be about different rates of infusion plus medication to try to protect against a future reaction.

It sounds like with your wife they are currently dealing with the effects of the reaction and once she has recovered they will look again at her treatment. I do hope that the fluid in her lungs can be dealt with quickly and that she can return home very soon.

Hopefully by me responding someone who has had a similar reaction may see your post and be able to give some more specific advice. In the meantime why not give the Support Line a call and talk it through with one of the nurses. They may be able to answer your questions.

    Jane
