Hi, has anyone had a bone biopsy taken from vertebrae? I was told I may need one and understand they are extremely painful but you can request sedation?
Hi Nadine welcome to the forum..I didn't have a bone biopsy but know other friends that have had this done. They give you a numbing injection like you might get at the dentist to numb up the area before they take the biopsy so that should be less painful..Have your team spoken with you re this or given you any detail to read as an example? I would be tempted to ask to speak to them to get further information . Alternatively you could give the Macmillan Line a call and speak to one of the Nurses there. 08088080000. Best wishes Gail
Hi Gail, thank you for your response. I am seeing the consultant tomorrow but when the scans were being arranged I was told I will probably have a bone biopsy to see if the cancer had changed. I did read that you have a local anaesthetic which numbs the skin and tissues but the bone cannot be numbed and is very painful but you can ask for a sedative.
Hi Nadine, yes I have once to the spine and once to the hip. They do provide numbing to the area and the last one was with liquid paracetamol intravenously. I was never offered full sedation, but I’m sure if you speak to the staff in the days beforehand they can advise. Good luck on your procedure.
