Hi

is anyone on this? What have been the side effects? I may move off chemotherapy onto hormone therapy soon. I’ve seen two Consultants in last two months 1 recommended cdk4/6 as suitable along with hormone treatment for my sort of cancer. Another has not mentioned cdk4/6. Thanks for any information.

  • This is the way the ‘ciclib’ group of drugs work; pablociclib, ribociclib and the third one that starts with a and is more difficult to spell! They inhibit the action of an enzyme involved in cell division. If you are hormone positive, this is regarded as the gold standard for treatment today and has impressive outcomes. They also usually have far fewer side effects than chemo, although as always this varies from person to person. The drugs are very expensive, so NICE must think they work to be prepared to spend the money!
I am on pablociclib and letrozole; after four cycles I am all stable and almost living a normal life!

  • Oh that sounds great! Glad you are doing well.

I hope that they are approved in Scotland too. Thanks

  • I have just been offered Abemaciclib and fulvestrant - Scotland

  • I am on cycle 18 of Pablociclib and on Letrozole too since November 20, still working full time and just had a stable CT scan reported yesterday . Yes my hair is thin ( extensions are to be recommended) and my nails are not great despite supplements but am enjoying life after scan anxiety week!
