Hi. I have had 2 rounds of EC chemotherapy. Wow! To say it is tough is an understatement! I managed 12 Paclitaxel with hardly any side effects but this EC is very different. I had my infusion on Thursday (6 days ago) and I still fell horrible. I feel very weak, dizzy, my limbs don’t feel like mine. I do not have a temperature thankfully. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you xx
Yes, I've found it grim. In order of horribleness I'd say the VileTaste, followed by the Total Exhaustion, with the alternating constipation and diarrhoea a close contender. The baldness I'm not bothered about. It gets slightly better towards the end of the cycle, but then they give you another dose - though the oncologist reduced the last one probably because I was saying 'Any more of this and I would prefer to DIE'. I hope your course is not a long one. Hang in there.
Thank you. I know exactly what you mean. I’m starting to feel a little better today but the thought of going back Thursday is terrifying me. I have also been using the cool cap throughout my treatment and hair hasn’t been too bad. But wow! After the EC I have lost so much despite the cap. Wondering whether it’s worth carrying on for the last 2! Xx
Try and carry on. I had a chat with another dr, anent the radiotherapy, in which he told me things about the original tumour which clarified why they thought the chemo was advisable. I expect they have good reasons in your case too. Better to get it over with. X
Hey Jaqui
I had a single dose of EC at the end of April (my treatment was changed in May due to a surprise early local recurrence of the cancer) and my hair started going 12 days after that. I hung in as long as I could and shaved it on day 17. I had shoulder length hair and my main reason for buzzing it was to save it clogging up the plumbing! I think you'll know if and when it feels right to do it.
Hi, I'm on EC and had 2 X sessions (facing 3rd this weekend). My 1st session I ended up in hospital for a few days - it made me feel absolutely dreadful! The Oncologist reduced my dose but also added injections to support my blood count. The second session I have managed really well apart from feeling really wiped out and tired.
It is a case of taking things steady.
If you feel sooo poorly you need to phone your Oncology Breast Care Nurse who will offer a solution and maybe ask your Oncologist to see you and reassess.
Sending gentle hugs xx
I'd second contacting the Helpline (number on the little red card they give you). My second cycle the diarrhoea got out of hand and I was vomiting. Called me in and found my BP was 50% of normal. 16 hour drip and 2 nights and I was home. Dosage adjusted. Don't suffer in silence.
