Hi all. I finished EC and am 2 rounds into paclitaxel. The side effects aren't as bad but I am after any hints or tips for coping with how long it takes in the chair for each session. It's taking between 5 and 5 1/2 hours to administer. I cant concentrate on reading or puzzles as it makes me really tired and by the last hour my hands, knees and feet are really hot and swollen. I'm 48 so assume it's not age! I kept nodding off on Thursday and they kept waking me up so assuming that's not an option. Seems a silly thing to ask in light of what we are all going through. Xx
That does seem a long time Sansa35c942 . They do usually take the first couple of infusions slowly to make an allergic reaction less likely. You may find they speed it up a bit next time. Unfortunately Paclitaxel needs antihistamines to be infused first, so there’s always going to be additional time involved. Plus are you perhaps cold capping?

I am a Macmillan volunteer.
I have metastatic Triple Negative Breast Cancer, in remission
No cold capping. Antihistamine is half an hour then a flush, then the same for stomach liner and then a flush.arher dose of paclitaxel so 3 and a half hours for that rather than 3 and then a 10 minute flush. Plus waiting for the canula, etc. Hey ho. All for the greater good.
