I was on tamoxifen for 2 years and I’ve now been on Letrazole for nearly 7 years I come off it next year I exercise a lot so tend to ache all the time I just want to know other people’s experiences of stopping taking Letrazole and does it make any difference
Hi a little background re me and Letrozole. I’m probably older than you as I was post menopausal when I had my breast cancer diagnosis in 2020, so straight onto Letrozole after chemotherapy etc. Took it for 5 years and had a lot of aches and pains and I think low mood but coped as it seemed important to continue it in my case. Discussions with oncologist October 2025 re continuing for a further 2 years as new review paper suggested beneficial . I read the paper and the statistics and wasn’t convinced that the very small gain was worth it in my case and I was growing weary of coping with the side effects that never went away . Stopped taking it on the 1st January 2026 after a lot of thought.
I too am very active and go to the gym and do weights among other things. So do I notice a difference now? It will be 3 months soon since I last took it and I’m beginning to feel a difference . I can still ache after exercise but it’s not an overwhelming body ache like it seemed to be with Letrozole but ache in response to exercise that gets better!! My mood has definitely lifted - don’t have to make an effort to enjoy things if that makes sense. It’s been very gradual and at first I thought maybe there wasn’t going to be any improvement but I had seen a comment from somebody that it took her 4-5 months to get back to being ache free and feeling “normal” so I’ve kept that in mind! Also have to remember I’m now older and in my 70’s so things have changed since 2020!
So yes for me I am feeling a difference that was noticeable after about 8 weeks and it’s all going in the right direction and it’s an improvement! The constant body ache has diminished significantly.Life just feels better. Rather a long answer but I hope it’s been of help!
