Letrozole break

I'm having a break from letrozole for a few weeks. I feel better but I feel it's a bit pointless, because as soon as you start taking letrozole again, you're back at square one. I'm thinking of asking to half the dose. Has anyone any experience of this?

  • Ive just started on letrozole and im thinking of just taking it every other day the side effects sound awfull

  • The side effects are different for everyone.  You could ask your oncologist or breast nurse about starting at a lower dose

  • I've gone from daily walking and cycling to hardly being able to get in and out of the bath.

I'm incredibly stiff and struggling with stairs.

    Letrozole has not been kind.

When I've mentioned this it does appear that this is standard for letrozole, but I'm finding it depressing and feel like I'm 100 years old when I'm only 54.

  • Hi there, many people report that different brands do cause different side effects.  From what I’ve read, whilst the active ingredient of the medication is the same, the “fillers” that the different companies use are different and apparently this can make a difference for some people.  Femara, the original drug, is meant to be the best, but I think your GP needs to specify it as it's more expensive than the generic brands.   Might be worth trying a different brand to see if that helps, or talking to your GP or oncologist about this. Best wishes

  • Hello

I have been taking Letrozole, for a few months now.

I took the first one, in the evening, around 6 30pm and soon realised that I was not feeling too good. I started to find my heart was beating faster abd I also felt like I had a belt, pulled tight around my chest.

So the next night I took it, literally as I got in to bed.

    That has seemed much better.

But after a few months I now find I am having mood swings.

I can be fine, one minute and then stroppy, the next, but it doesn't last long and I do apologise to my husband, each time as he seems to be on the receiving end !!!

I think it just depends on the individual, as to how it effects you.

When my husband read the side effects he didnt think I would take it but I can say that for me, personally, I have been, at this moment only effecting, now by mood swings and the odd hot flush, which is funny as I am almost 80 !!!!!!!.

I hope you are able to persevere and find it helps you, in the long term !!! Best wishes to you
