CT scan undeterminable findings

I have just finished 5 months of chemo following surgery last summer for a 4cm tumor (ER and PR positive and HER2 negative). I had 1 lymph node involved and 3 were removed.

I am starting 20 RT session on 16th February.

I had a full body scan 2 weeks ago as I was anxious of spread to further organs etc - the team had not wanted to do this but agreed as it was making me anxious.

I found out today that the results are back and they have found a 7mm nodule on the lung and a legion on my lumbar spine - both undeterminable at present. I have just finished chemo and I know this can cause inflammation - has anyone had a similar situation where it turned out to be benign etc?

I am going out of my mind with worry and I knew this was a risk of having a scan - but I was of the mindset that if there is something there I would rather know asap rather than waiting for symptoms in several months/years!

Thanks

Andrea

  • Hi I have had a nodule in my lung for a couple of years now. It has measured both 5mm and 7mm but is classed as stable. They're not even sure what it is exactly, they just keep an eye on it. Other things like lymph nodes have grown but the lung nodule stays the same size and I  have zero symptoms from it. I also have a couple of bony lesions,  one in my spine and one on  my sternum which are classed as non sinister. The thing is, radiologists will mention whatever they see, whether or not its cancer related. It means they have a baseline for something becoming visible and can monitor after that. Unfortunately  now that you know they're there, you will be preoccupied  but, really, it's only another scan that will tell you what they're doing. And they wont scan you again for at least 3 months. If they're classed as  indeterminate, take the positives from that. In my experience, oncs don't act on anything indeterminate. They wait to see what happens and it can go either way. I know this may not be the reassurance you are seeking but hopefully it will help you switch off a bit and leave it to your team to decide what next.
