Invasive Carcinoma Breast Grade 2 - Letrozole

I have estrogen positive invasive ductal carcinoma - Grade 2 - her2 negative and progesterone negative - diagnosed in March last year. On letrozole.

The tumour is 3.4 cm central right breast (behind) nipple. They mentioned close enough to the skin. The only option I have been given is mastectomy because of tumour size in relation to breast size. Smaller breast :( and centrally located.

I am disappointed I have not had more shrinkage - on letrozole since 19 May last year. They are telling me now it is stable disease but they don't think waiting 5-6 months longer is going to make any difference on Letrozole

Has anyone had better success the longer they are on it and with a tumour centrally located like mine.

I would be so grateful to hear your experience.

Thanks to all of you

  • Hi, I think that many people are in letrozole as a post surgery drug to prevent recurrence rather than to shrink an existing tumour, but I'm not an expert.  I noticed that your post hasn't yet had any replies so my answer will bump you back to the top of the group and I hope someone with more relevant experience will be along soon. Best wishes

  • thanks Irish girl for your help.

  • Certainly as Irishgirl has commented it seems that people on letrozole have several years’ prescription to help prevent recurrence of oestrogen fed cancers after surgery, chemo, radiotherapy etc. This has been my situation.

For HER2+ they have drugs which are very effective “shrinking”meds which tend to be used before other treatment starts and can minimise surgery.

I hope that at least  the stability of the cancer now gives you the opportunity to explore the best possible options for your future treatment. xx
