Hi there start chemo 8th January unsure what to expect like do they give you antisick tablets before treatment on the day numb the portal before needle goes in and bloods not sure Thinking please let me know what the first time is like give me the heads up please

Thanks

  • Hi

Good luck for next Thursday - you will be fine. What chemo are you having?  I have had EC x 3 and also Docetaxel x 3. I had a PICC rather than a port - but I have heard it's just a "scratch" when needle goes in.

You have to have bloods done 1 or 2 days before and depending on the regimen - they will give you steriods on the day and few days after - but for docetaxel you need to take steriods day before too. They give you antisickness before you start and then more if needed.

    Are you cold capping?

Have you signed the consent forms yet?

  • Good morning

    I'm having E C  epirubicin   cyclophosphamide      3 w x 4

    Phesgo  trastuzumab  and   pertuzumab

3 weekly    with  Paclitaxel weekly  x12

    Her2  positive

Have portal fitted   yes signed consent form

No cold cap if hair comes out it's the least of my problems  lol

The way the post has been I'm not getting it on time then 4 days all together

Thanks for reaching out to me

  • I wish I didn't care about my hair. I feel a bit superficial sometimes as I know I am lucky I can have chemo to try and get rid of any nasty stray cells etc. I have lost a lot of hair so if you're not too bothered the cold cap isn't worth the hassle.

EC wasn't that bad for me - I had decent energy and felt well apart from the day of the infusion - I felt sick. Drink lots of water and eat a lot of protein and it should help.

    Post is terrible here too.

    Good luck.

  • Hello.
I am sending you the very best of luck for your upcoming treatment.
You will be given anti sickness tablets before your Chemo, and you should get some to bring home.
You need to get a blood test a day or so before your treatment.
Take something with you to pass the time, a book, crossword book, or headphones.

    You have got this. xx

  • Hi thanks for the advice it all helps good luck with everything going forward

  • Hey thank you I'm getting great feedback from people who have been and going through treatment thank you

  • Hi

Just on the port. It makes life so much easier! I a super squeamish but I love my port. I have never had any numbing before the port is accessed, but really it doesn’t hurt - you barely notice it

Good luck! Mine was nowhere near as awful as I expected

  • Good Morning it's cemo day for me 1.30 I'd like to say thank you for the great advice you've all given me and I'll see how I am going forward

           Thanks Heart

  • Please don't worry too much. Daughter had a picc for pre-surgery chemo which was fine but a bit of a pain when showering (whole arm cover), no swimming and very restricted exercise. She opted for a port when they decided on a further year of chemo after her radiotherapy. She was very happy with the port. There's a quick sting when they access it each time, but you can shower, bath and swim with no problems.

Chemo does make you feel rough, affects everyone differently. But you will soon learn which are your worst days and adapt your life round them. And in the bad days ... if you need to lie on the sofa all day watching rubbish tv and eating dry crackers or ginger biscuits ... then do it. Listen to your body.

    Very best of luck. x
