Hi everyone,
I hate to dampen the festive mood, but I'm looking for advice regarding mucositis..
I've had 3xEC and 2 Docetaxel. After the first Docetaxel I got horrible mouth sores, stomach ache and (apologies for too much info!) soreness down below.
After my second Docetaxel, the mouth sores didn't occur but vaginal mucositis has been the bane of my life for the last 10 days. Plus hemorrhoids to boot. I've taken Nystatin for fungal aspect. Used nappy cream, topical lidocaine for pain. And all the anusol products. My eyes are also puffy and sore/itchy and my neck is itchy so using E45 too. I see my oncologist tomorrow. Is there any other meds I could ask for, especially stronger creams for my lower region!!?? This is the first time I am considering asking for a lower doseage of my chemo, though it is also my last chemo so I realise I should try and hang in there.
Thanks for any advice! xx
Hello Newlydiagnosed_49
I am very sorry to hear of the issues you've been having, it sounds awful for you. I can't help personally as I didn't have chemo/ Docetaxel.
However, as it's the Christmas period, there's been less women around on the forum, so I am answering to bump your post back to first page in the hope that someone's around who can help you now.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
I do hope you got some helpful suggestions from the oncologist.
I had the dry itchy skin and sore mouth during my paclitaxel 12 weeks . Emollient cream and hay fever antihistamines helped along with benzydamine hydrochloride mouthwash. Those symptoms settled down well.
Vaginally I use a Boots menopause lubricating gel which contains both hyaluronic acid and lactic acid and is better than Replens for me. I have spells of using canesten cream, though I don’t think I’ve been having thrush. I’m on letrozole and abemaciclib and that has been tending to make me pretty dry skinned and flaky nailed these days and my hair is thin and dry as well. I’m getting through a lot of E45!
Ive got 4 months left on the abemaciclib and I hope things will improve then, though I’ll stay on the letrozole for longer.
All the best! xxx
Thanks Anna,
I'll look into that cream. Things have slowly improved and my oncologist delayed my chemo by a week to give me time to recover.
I wish you well in your recovery and Happy New Year!
Thanks Cynoptimistic! They're all really helpful suggestions. I'm taking the antihistamines and I'll be given something stronger to combat the thrush next time. I'll also be on abemaciclib so I appreciate your tips re cream. You've done well to cope with it.
I wish you well in your recovery and a Happy New Year!
