“A few months ago, I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer that has metastasis to the bones. My cancer is HER2 positive. I don’t know why, but I feel inspired that I will recover miraculously because of my three young children.”

  • Hi Nafas I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I have secondary breast cancer with bone mets too.  It is good that you feel inspired because people are living longer with secondary cancer than ever before.  There are new drugs and trials coming out all the time so there is definite hope.  I think being positive helps enormously because your mind is a powerful tool.  I am sure that you will be here for a long time enjoying happy times with your children.  Good to read posts like yours x

  • Hi Nafas, I have almost same diagnoses but I am triple negative breast cancer with bony mets, stay as positive as you can, I know it can be hard, I am just out of hospital due to immunotherapy and it was an experience. We know that family is so important and our biggest supporters so we can do this. I met quite a few patients in hospital going at least 8 years, so hold on to your kids and you will find the strength. I was diagnosed September this year. Wishing you all the very best for your journey ahead, also it is your journey don't listen to negatives or take on other people's journey. Take care

  • I had the biopsy in September, and in August they had diagnosed me with stage 3, but I hadn’t had the bone scan yet. Then in October, after the bone scan, I was diagnosed with stage 4.”

  • Sorry to hear this Nafas, again also my scenario, my bone cancer was not seen on the original CT scan in August so I was graded stage 3 then, when bone scan done they were able to "marry them up" so straight to stage 4.  Still really scary but I strongly suggest you ensure you have all information at hand as I have an amazing family and we researched everything and questions when I was told at my first oncology appointment when I asked about chemo and mastectomy as discussed 2 weeks previous to be told it's too late for that it has already spread so we will not be doing that, no decision has been made until you get a PET scan to confirm all findings but we might hold chemo until it spreads. I was broken coming out but after talking to my family we went prepared to next meeting and I got offered chemo, radiotherapy and immunotherapy which I have started. A very long response but I am now very passionate about how being treated as stage 4 and the negative responses isn't good enough.

    • Take care, Karen
  • Hi Nafas and Karen,  I am one year in to my stage 4 diagnosis.  Actually one year ago today I started treatment.  Last year I was very negative and scared and wondered if I would see Christmas.  This year I am so much more positive and my husband and I even went on holiday to Portugal in September.  I am currently doing a zoom course with Penny Brohn about being in cancer treatment.  It is about excercise, nutrition, stress and mindfulness.  I am finding it useful and take one thing away a week.  We are living with cancer and we will do so for a long time.  Take care both.

  • Thank you so much Lee. I really needed to hear this. You are right we have to live with this and I plan a lovely long life like you and Nafas. Take care, Karen

    1. I am very interested in this course that you are running and I really need it. How can I register?
  • Hi Nafas you can click on this link and it will take you to the website.  I did a zoom introduction course first where they tell you all about the courses and the charity.  You have to register your details on the website.

  • Hi Lee I was given a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer by oncologist on 15th October. I had no symptoms I do sport three times a week and this was picked up by accident after having an x-ray due to COVID.

I have been told the cancer is in my lymph nodes, lining of my lung and a large mass in one of my lungs. They can't operate and it can't be cured. I am absolutely devastated. I have had CT scans MRI scans x-ray biopsies etc. I have a meeting with my oncologist tomorrow and she is looking at targeted therapy. I really need some positive information to help me get through this.
