Hi all been told that I will be around 6 to 7 hours first day and trying to plan what I can eat while having chemotherapy  do you bring food with you and if so what?

Any suggestions Thinking

  • Hi there

I have to be honest and say that on my chemo days I ate the most. I used to get chemo every two weeks and was only starting to get my taste back on my chemo day. I used to take fruit, sandwiches, sweets to suck because I had very little saliva. The lovely ladies and gents of the Beatson Cancer Charity used to also come round with sandwiches, jelly, cup a soups and sometimes crackers and cheese. You can choose as little or as much as you want with a lovely cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. Always take plenty of water and other juices if you think you might want them. Drinking plenty water really helps.

All the very best for your treatment and recovery xx

  • My short answer would be anything you fancy!

I don’t normally eat much sugar but when i go to the chemo clinic I always have a couple of biscuits

When I needed to go in for longer sessions I’d take my usual overnight oats in (oats, milk, natural yoghurt and maybe a few berries) which always seemed to set me up well. I also found that I was craving salty things so I’d usually fit in a bag of crisp at some stage.

Definitely eat anything that makes you feel better

    Good luck

  • I always had boiled sweets with me and a few biscuits. If I was there over lunch we were offered. Jacket potato with cheese and beans, cheese and biscuits or cup of soup. We were always offered tea and coffee. I took in decaf coffee and fruit teas they were happy to make. There are always lots of biscuits on offer, gifts from grateful patients shared by the staff.

I am lucky I've never lost my appetite although my sense of taste has changed. I loved the jacket potato though as it came with butter which never appears in our house.

Three times! What did I do?
