Hi my mum got her onco type result today for Grade 2 IDC Er, Pr positive and Her2 negative. 1/1 node with micro mets.
she is 63 and her score was 28! Bit of a shock tbh.

She will now have 8 rounds of chemo. Should I be worried or is this just to mop up any cells that may have escaped.
anyone been through this that can give any advice please.

thank-you so much.

  • Hi Clairebear3fda62

I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum.  I'm sorry to hear that your mum has been diagnosed with  breast cancer and that she needs chemo.   The chemo is just to mop up any cells that may have escaped.   While I won't say chemo is easy it is doable.  She will be given medications to deal with any side effects she may have and the number of the chemo ward she'll be on if she has any problems as well as an emergency number to call out of hours.

Make sure that she drinks plenty of water during her treatment which will help to flush put any toxins in her body from chemo.  She should try to get out for a walk everyday, even if only for a short while as it can help to negate any side effects she may have.

Wishing you both the best of luck as you both go though this journey.

    Best wishes

  • Thank-you! She has her ECG next week so hopefully won’t be long until she starts. The sooner the better.

is 8 rounds a general amount? I’ve read some people only have 6? She will have EC-paclitaxel.

  • It is.  I had 8 cycles of chemo when I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.

  • Thank-you.

she has hormone positive her2:negative. So guessing this is still normal?

I hope your are doing well now

  • That oncotype score is low for her age. If you read the sheet they gave her with the result on it says if the score over 25 in pre menopausal women then chemo is of benefit. The score was a lot higher for post menopausal women. I would check that as I assume she may not need it.
