I have been diagnosed with a 9cm lobular carcinoma ER+ PR+ and HER2- with all of my 16 nodes involved on my left breast. There also was 1mm of cancer cells discovered in the right breast. I have had 3 sessions of chemo paclitaxel, however my LFTs have elevated too high that has been attributed to drug induced liver injury due to flucloxacillin given during surgery and the chemo. I am being offered hormone therapy, targeted therapy and radiotherapy. Is there anything else I should be looking for
Probably not, certainly I don’t think hormone therapy affects liver function and Radiotherapy definitely doesn’t, but your team are best on that..
During my 12 weekly doses of Paclitaxel my liver enzyme rose from 2nd dose on as if I were drinking (when I wasn’t) and I was concerned about it whilst oncologist was more relaxed. I looked up foods and drinks that might help and started to take more on my diet, plus more water. I had been having coffee anyway, but the staples of my regime were broccoli and blueberries because they were easy to have around. I know from my experience with alcoholic friend, plus my dad how much the liver can self repair given a chance…
Anyway it went down to just above the ‘ok’ range while I was still doing the paclitaxel, I did go down to 80% after dose 7, but that was to minimise risk of permanent neuropathy problem in feet, which had begun to get really sore.
Anyway I’m telling about this as in the meantime it might be good to treat your liver- and maybe you already are.
Ive had a lot of treatment, with “curative intent” which has affected me in various ways but I’ve sought to be as good health wise as I can be during it in the hope that when it’s done I might feel nearly as good as I did in March 2023. I’ll finish abemaciclib early May 2026, with a couple of years or so left on the letrozole..I was close to 70 when diagnosed and will be 73 when abemaciclib stops, so I’ll have to allow for that!
All the best, xxx
